Five Things: Raiders v Tigers

It's been a long time coming but this week the Raiders' star hooker is set to play his first game of the 2018 season in his return from an ACL injury.

Hodgson's return is a huge boost for the Raiders, while Siliva Havili, who has been outstanding in the Englishman's absence, stays in the side as a utility.

We're almost talking 'mathematically' already, I don't think you'll need to wait until Rd 22.

Canberra Raiders young gun Cotric missed his Papa

When you're young and away from friends and family, it's only natural you miss your Papa. Which is why when Canberra Raiders young gun Nick Cotric saw him at Origin I he had to say 'G'day'.

"I was just saying, 'How you going man, I missed you, haven't seen you.' Papa's a good fella," Cotric said. "I wasn't sure if I could say hey to him or not because it was half-time so it was a bit funny there. Papa's a good bloke, so we were just having a bit of a chat, just catching up."

Why the Raiders were playing cat and mouse with Papa’s contract is beyond me. They should have given him what he wanted at the start of the season and moved on.

If they lose Papa, the only have themselves to blame

Ummm I don't think so we are two wins/games out of the top 8.
7th Sharks - 18 pts
8th Broncos - 16 pts
9th Tigers - 14 pts
10th Raiders - 12 pts

Raiders remaining games....We have no chance we won't make the top 8 this year.
(my tips)
Round 16 - Broncos (A) - lose
Round 17 - Bulldogs (A) - lose
Round 18 - Cowboys )H) - win

Sadly for us he was the only player who was playing poorly and called out on it, that then responded like a professional rugby league player.

Infernos. I think we'll beat the doggies and a decent chance with the sharks. Other than that I think you're spot on. Of course hoping to be very wrong.

Sorry ment end of next round . If sharks beat broncos then we beat tigers and broncos we are 8th.

So by sharks knocking off broncos the ball is back in our court and we just need to win. We have been in all but 2 games this year and as frustrating as it is , it’s better than we have been for years. I remember for about 15 years the best we could hope for was to beat the odd top team that took us lightly and not do much else. Now we are a genuine chance every week . We are not icing games but fans are coming back because we have faith for the first time in years. This year we drew over 14 000 to the warriors on a long weekend, that’s unheard of.

Josh Hodgson believes he could have made Canberra Raiders return earlier

Canberra hooker Josh Hodgson has declared his surgically repaired knee is ready to withstand the rigours of his NRL return when he runs out to face the Wests Tigers at Campbelltown on Sunday.

"I've been full-contact for a good four or five weeks now," Hodgson said. "I saw the surgeon at six months [into rehabilitation] and he was happy with everything and this weekend will be seven months and that's usually what the surgeon will say is a safe point to go back and play.

Would rather a cautious approach. Although it's the same team that brought Dunamis Lui straight back into first grade and he had no issues in his comeback.

Josh Hodgson not the Messiah but can add on Canberra Raiders return

He's not the Messiah, but Josh Hodgson is ready to return. While Hodgson's return is a boost for the Green Machine, the man himself warned against assuming he was the saviour for the Raiders' season.

"No, not at all. I think we are still in a position to make the finals - it's that tight this year," he said. "It's frustrating to say, but we've [only] had two games where we've been blown out of the water this year ... we've lost a lot of tight games.

Yeah true but gee I just can’t see us winning many games unless Hodgson brings some steadiness to the side because we lose all our games in the dying minutes. It’s been a problem for awhile now we did this last year a lot too and we had Hodgson we had everyone. I’m a believe it’s a coaching issue.

I’ve been following the Raiders since it’s berth and if you were a true Raiders you would also be pissed at our CEO and Board for making stupid descisons all the time.
It’s obvious you have no idea the Raiders fans that get upset is because they are sick and tired of the same ol crap we haven’t improved at all since last year. People forget in 2016 we won our last 8 games before that we were also losing games like we are now. Pfft I give up useless talking to a brick wall.

I think/hope that if we are to go on a run, this week will be it. I will cop some flak for this for thinking too far in advance of the coming game but I think we are a good chance against the Broncos. 'BigHead/LittleHead' Bennett does not have the Broncos playing consistent footy and will be away with the England squad during the lead up to the game. At this point in the season we have scored more points than the Broncos and had fewer points scored against us.(hard to believe I know). We then play the Bulldogs and Cowboys who have had less than stellar seasons.

We then come up against the Sharks. I'll go no further than to say we have to find a way to beat the Sharks and they will employ their usual scragging tactics against us. We will have had Hodgo back for a few weeks and he should be catching up with some match fitness by the time this match is played. Love him or loathe him they have a Captain all of their players want to see out as a winner in his last season. If the earlier games have gone our way then this is season definer imo. A side in some form who is higher on the ladder than us. How much do we want it in 2018? Sticky's strategy of an easy pre-season to allow a fresher team to enter the finals gets a second showing (the first was the failed 2017 season) in this match. It will be a dog fight. Are we up for it ???

Well we definitely need to win our next 4 games (includes this one against the Tigers), cause we sure have some big games to finish the year. Our next 4 are all winnable as well, but as we all know, we've shown no reliability to win the winnable games.

Round 23 - Roosters (H) - lose
Round 24 - Souths (H) - lose
Round 25 - Warriors (A) - lose
Well we definitely need to win our next 4 games (includes this one against the Tigers), cause we sure have some big games to finish the year. Our next 4 are all winnable as well, but as we all know, we've shown no reliability to win the winnable games.
Blind Faith baby!
must win 7 of our last 11 to be any chance.

only 1 bye this year so 28pts becomes 26pts for the traditional cutoff. 50% win

Canberra Raiders coach Ricky Stuart urges Josh Hodgson not to make up for lost time

Canberra Raiders coach Ricky Stuart has no hesitation in starting star hooker Josh Hodgson in his first game back from a knee reconstruction. But he urges the England rake to not try to make up for lost time when he runs out against the Wests Tigers at Campbelltown on Sunday.

"No hesitation [in starting him] at all. He's going to be a major bonus for us - just having his presence. We're not looking at Josh to come out and win a game of football for us, we're not looking at Josh coming out and being a difference. We want Josh to come back and be Josh."
