I don't have a problem with Trbojevic getting picked out of position ahead of him. Tommy T and Tedesco have to be in the side and there is a long and relatively successful history of players playing out of position on the wing in Origin. I think he probably should've got picked ahead of JAC, who I don't see as a long term Origin player, but they are going for speed this year so understand the selection. Still happy for him to get the experience and I have no doubt if NSW drop game one or two he will be straight in.

Good on Papa as well. He has done really well to make it from where he was a month ago.

If that’s the side that’s named I am happy with it with the exception of the centres. Both can not defend to save themselves.

For all the talk of NSW, that is a very good looking Qld team. All the pressure is on NSW. I'm liking Qld this year for the win. No doubt the NSW team is looking a lot better this year and it should be a close series but that is a solid Qld squad.

Really - you think they need Scott and some more size up front or do you mean light on talent? No doubt missing some irreplaceable players from previous years but I still think they are a solid outfit. Would you have found room for Ponga and Oates?

I would've gone Boyd over Slater but apart from that, the qld looks spot on

size up front on the bench, they've got 3 backrowers and a utility.

Coen Hess has done nothing this year so they'll be banking on the occasion to get him up. He'll be fitter at the very least having played much bigger minutes for the cows.
Morgan has been struggling too but you'd bank on him stepping up.
Other than that it's a strong side.

As outstanding at Gagai was last year Cory Oates is the in form winger at the moment. I'm comfortable with how they selected it.

NSW have a similar issue at fullback- Tommy T is the man in form but I'm tipping Teddy will get the gig.

NSW are talking about running back rowers up front. I suspect the Blues will be mobile so maybe Qld wanted players that could go with them?

What are the alternatives? If they do get smashed with not enough size can you go back to Scott now? Surely Sammy T is well beyond it. Who am I missing that brings the size?

I think both NSW and QLD generally have better back rowers than props

I think it has potential to be a very high quality entertaining series. Plenty of talent on both sides. I think we will see Cotric and Ponga get a run later in the series if injuries set in or urgent changes are required. If either team goes up 2-0 we will see the other blood players for the future

How good are paps numbers at lock for the last month: He's been averaging 150m+, 31 tackles and 70mins. Couldn't ask for more from him. It's 1000x better than his previous stint in the middle.

Yeah very good. I hope his form bump hasn't had too much to do with him wanting a maroon jumper...

Possibly. Personally I think the turn around started after he was dropped and the resulting change in attitude. Also helps he doesn't have to defend wider.

Most of That QLD pack has not been in the best form this year.
The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.

If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

Outside of Slater and Inglis, Papalli is the most experienced player in that QLD team. (And most likely above all NSW players as well)

With Slater almost certainly gone this season and Inglis a love tap on his knee as well away.

Kevvie Walters should be right into Papalli’s ear that now is the time for him to lead his states forward pack this series and the team moving forward as the senior member.

I’m also predicting Gavin Cooper to be shown up as **** useless without Thurston there this year

NSW has the better forward pack, mostly because they are all in form. QLD has the better spine and back 5.

I'll be stunned if he's not, but if he's not I might just take Fittler a touch more seriously.

Josh Papalii becomes Queensland's most experienced forward

Ricky Stuart says Josh Papalii has found another level that has taken him from reserve grade to being the most experienced member of the Queensland Maroons pack inside two months.

"For Papa at a young age, it was something I spoke to Josh about [on Sunday], he goes into this squad now and he goes into this camp with different responsibilities," Stuart said. "Because he is now more of a senior person, he knows Origin, he has played Origin, he hopefully can take his game to another level in regards to seniority.

*annoyed sniff* it's a classic NSW move to pick a fullback out of position on the wing rather than pick the form winger of the competition.

Still, that's a somewhat more intelligent selection than past years. Dare we hope NSW won't just get steamrollered this year?

EDIT:

Rothfield and Kent just stated that they thought that Cotric was very unlucky.
