I know we were developing a link with a Fiji squad to play in Australia. Does anyone know what happened to that?
Which FG opportunity was that?
Come on Ed. We identified his talent and brought him through our junior system. He was a Junior Kangaroo 2 years in a row, in the U/20s team of the year and playing with Mounties in his teens. Talent obvious and training with the FGers. He had a contract with the Raiders for 2016 and before the season started he ups and signs with the Broncos for 2017 and 2018. We then release him early and he plays FG for the Broncos in 2016. He was definitely part of our long term plans and was developed to the point where Uncle Benny poached him and played him in FG the same year.

He went to the the Broncos because they gave him the first grade chance we didn't. We played much worse players ahead of him and he was not given any indication he would play first grade for us. That's straight from the horses mouth.

Didn't we give him his opportunity and he turned up to training late that week? He was then dropped from the side and signed with Brisbane?

2019 Squad

Post by LastRaider »

Time to rebuild the team. Anyone who is off contract next year and there contracts are currently not renewed need to go tomorrow. This includes Sezer, Austin, Boyd, Paulo everyone. No doubt there is some great players in this squad however the make up of this team just doesn’t work anymore and we need to start again.

Frank is disgusted with the team this year. He walks off disinterested.

What's our worst case in terms of player losses for the top 25 for next year?

Assuming everyone that has been linked elsewhere leaves?

Boyd - GC (Confirmed)
Paulo - Eels
Wighton - Knights
Sezer - Storm
Austin - Somewhere in Sydney

Have I missed anyone? I'm banking on Papa staying based on our offer.

Stuart and Mulholland better have some serious targets in mind.

That about covers it.
We could be left without first grade halves and first grade starting props, as a worst case scenario.

Jack is on contract, I'd think he will only go if he gets sacked. If we wanted to shop him we would've done it already.

Not sure if Sia and Havilli have been linked to anyone yet but I am sure they are getting some interest. I'd also hope we keep the depth of Lui and Oldfield.

I'd hope its play Cotric there, use Oldfield on the wing and spend Jacks 700k on a half.

Jacks 700k, Boyds 500k, Paulos 600k, austins 500k let's add it all up, buy 2 pommy forwards and throw 1.5 mill at Cleary.

I think this side would go well....

1. Barba (Should Wighton get the sack mid year)
2. Cotric
3. Croker
4. BJ
5. Rapana
6. Norman (Where there is smoke.....)
7. Sezer
8. Sutton
9. Hodgo
10.Papa
11. J Bateman
12. Tapine
13. Whitehead

14. Havili
15. Soliola
16. Guler
17. Knight/Gubb

I would be quite happy with this rebuild if it were to happen...

Barba would play well but they're already rolling the red carpet out for him at the sharks. He'll end up there, maybe even this year. He's served his suspension and could play immediately.

Throw him a lazy 800k. That will keep the Sharks away. He is seriously a game changer.

Why the hell would Sharks want another fb? They already have Moylan, Dugan and Holmes....

Because Dugan's a centre, Holmes is a winger, and Moylan's at 5/8.

Dugan is a centre, Holmes is being courted by North Queensland, but I cant agree that Moylan is a five eighth.

800k wouldn't be enough to get him to move to Canberra. If we were a Sydney team we'd have a much better chance.
Barba is their best option at fullback. He's a big part of why they won a prem. Agree with the above posters as well (Holmes will move on, Dugan will play centre and Moylan will be 5/8).
Also flanno loves him.

I was thinking about this squad last night, after seeing Clinton blow the horn, and all the old boys out at the ground.
Who do you think from this current squad has that aura that will achieve “Legend” status? The last right proper legend I can think of is Alan Tongue.. I don’t know if anyone in this side will get to that point. Maybe Papa Doc, but I’m not convinced.
Campo came close, but not quite

Papa.

Croker will be a great clubman but not a legend for his onfield stuff. Unless he gets us to a premiership.

Rapana maybe. He is as good as the 90s wingers, even with his mistakes. He and BJ will definitely be remembered fondly in 20 years.

Fair call, maybe legend was an overreach... I’m talking about those guys in between.
Blake came close. His 2016 form, on top of his off field niceties.. but he’s plateaued
