Ricky Stuart on ABC Canberra Grandstand after 11am

Post by greeneyed »

Don't forget ABC Radio Canberra Grandstand with Tim Gavel Saturday after 11am Saturday. You can listen live: http://www.abc.net.au/canberra

You can SMS the program with Raiders comments and questions on 0467 922 666.

Or you can call on 1300 681 666 (at the cost of a local call).

Or email Tim Gavel at gavel.tim@abc.net.au.

Or send Tim a tweet @TimGavel on twitter.

Ricky Stuart will be on the program. Tim would also like to hear your views on the Raiders' season so far, and priorities for signing and re-signing.

GE can you tweet Tim to get him to ask Ricky what they uncovered about hydration during the week?

And then can you Instagram DM me what he said? Thanks in advance
Gina Riley: Oh, come on, John. That’s a bit old hat, the corrupt IOC delegate.
John Clarke: Old hat? Gina, in the scientific world when they see that something is happening again and again and again, repeatedly, they don’t call it old hat. They call it a pattern.

Ricky Stuart interview:

Josh Papalii in the middle? Gets more opportunity to get the football, higher workload in defence, greater load on him, has the strength to handle it. Good for us there at the moment.

Looking for a good start? You make some tackles, stop the attack, you get your chance with the football. We didn't do that last week, individuals were poor in defence and they've been made aware of that. Letting those soft three tries in last week, you're not going to get your chance with the football. You've got to stop the other team's flow.

Johnathan Thurston. One of the best in the world because of this talent, but also his calming influence on others, his confidence and his self belief. He's a real leader, they all follow him.

Consistency of the Raiders? There's been a number of things leading to inconsistency. A lot of it comes down to individuals and their choices/decisions. When you look at our best performances, you see everybody contributing to the performance, you find it hard to pick a man of the match. That's what we need.

Siliva Havili. For a boy who's played just a handful of NRL games, with limited minutes, I think he's doing a wonderful job filling in for Josh.

Soft deadline on contracts. Every player off contract has told me they want to stay, including Junior Paulo. But the issue is balancing the cap. We've got a great culture, players do want to stay, but it is a matter of what they're asking for, what their manager is asking for, and in some cases we can't meet it.

Junior Paulo staying? I don't know if he'll be at the club, you'll have to ask Junior's manager. I'm comfortable with the deep discussion we've had, but I won't be going into it publicly.

Is it true that the club was limiting contracts to two years? It was written in the media, but that's never been a directive from Don Furner or the board. All sorts of things in the media are written and are incorrect. I'm told we've offered a three year deal to Corey Norman, but nothing could be further from the truth. Luciano Leilua... has he signed with the Raiders? I don't know... I might get to work on Monday and find he's signed! So much in the media is just not true. It just wastes my time, having to answer questions like that.

Good weather. 27-28 C, should be 20 C tonight for game time. Weather has been better than we expected. Humidity might be the problem, but weather won't be an excuse. Hopefully we get a good game.

Don - good work Ricky, I'm sure he can play big minutes at 9 too, never played there before tho

Ricky - that was exactly my plan Don, as you know our starting hooker just isn't fit enough to play more than 25 minutes...

They are blowing smoke over Sticky. Keep picking me Stick and I'll continue to tell you how wonderful you are and what a fabulous culture we have and how much I want to stay. But all those clubs (who have the same cap limits) think I'm worth so much more. Call the players and the player managers bluff.

Negotiations begin with 'This is what we think your contract value is based on your current form. Justify why you think you should be paid more than that'. Why on earth do the Raiders have a 'soft' deadline. Is it because we are 'soft' in every other way? Pick a time frame and have nothing 'soft' about it. Either accept our offer by (Say 30 June) or we will look elsewhere to cover your current position and our negotiations with you and your Manager stop at that date. Then stick to it.

The Club has the money. They want the money. The Club is in the position of either accepting or declining, but they should be putting their position strongly first. Then it becomes a negotiation with the onus on the player to 'prove' why they are worth more. One more thing. The Club should be keeping themselves below the cap by a fair margin - say $3-400K. This allows room if an outside player is needed urgently.

I don't want to be too cynical, but I can't see any player saying "No I want to GTFO of here" when asked if he wants to stay....

Yup. A culture where there is zero accountability for performance and you get paid the same amount as competitors for your work, I'm sure plenty are happy to stay.

The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.

If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

I was referring to Neeeegz ridiculous call that is known for something we are no longer allowed to mention by name. But it starts with the same letter that starts off the name of the moderator Dubby and ends with "ubby".

Did anyone text in and ask why Garvey isn’t getting a crack? Or why his bench rotation is so strange? Or why Blake Austin is still in the team?

I only ask because I know Gavel isn’t ever going to ask those questions.
