Junior Paulo to depart Raiders at end of 2018

Post by Goobeeful »

Parramatta Eels table huge offer for Canberra Raiders prop Junior Paulo

James Graham reportedly earns $600,000. Jake Trbojevic is pocketing a handy $700,000. Matt Gillett finds himself on $750,000. And now Junior Paulo could join the NRL's richest forwards.

Canberra are facing an uphill battle to retain the off-contract prop with his former club Parramatta tabling a stunning four-year deal worth a reported $2.4 million.

Interesting sub-plot to tomorrow’s game between Canberra and Parramatta. Raiders have basically given up on Junior Paulo. They believe he has been offered a deal by Eels and another club, possibly Cronulla. Figures astounding - 4 years, $2.7 million. https://twitter.com/brentread_7/status/ ... 9489801216

FIRST @7NewsSydney tonight: @TheParraEels have made an offer for their former prop and local product Junior Paulo to come home . . . And they would love to have him back before June 30. https://twitter.com/josh_massoud/status ... 3762278400

He will need to evolve his game if interchanges end up being cut to 6

He would need to be able to play 50-60 straight before being worth even close to that

I think we could cover him in the middle with Papa and take our chances with Knight, Gubb and Hunt.

Not sure what we'd do with the money if he leaves early. Any unhappy Parramatta halves?

Makes me sad. When he came I remember reading him say something along the lines of “I’ve found a home here in canberra”. Was our best forward last year and has so much potential. He was a big part of our late 2016 success. Will be very sad to see him go. Hopefully he sees out the season.

I look forward to him going else where, being whipped into shape and playing origin.

Then we will look at our out of shape forward pack and wonder why we missed the 8 again.

I’m sick of this same old story.

Absolutely wasted his potential in Canberra and should move on. Will be forgotten as a Raider very quickly.

Son, we live in a world that has forums, and those forums have to be guarded by Mods. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Nickman? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lucy, and you curse GE. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that GE’s moderation, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, keeps threads on track and under the appropriately sized, highlighted green headings.
You want moderation because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that forum -- you need me on that forum. We use words like "stay on topic," "use the appropriate forum," "please delete." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very moderation that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you get a green handle and edit a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think about moderation.

He is seriously heavy this year. Much heavier than at any other time at the club. He's also a naturally tubby man. If we kept him I worry he'd become our Williams.

Let Parra have two of them and sink to the bottom and stay there :roflmao

He isn't worth that and frankly we should never have purchased him to begin with.. particularly with Vaughan, Barnett and TPJ in our squad... Ricky has got this soo wrong imo.

He'll seem fine in a side where he's the only big (literally) dog on the field as the more agile players can cover up his weakness. For his sake I hope he ends up at Parra. But in no way is he worth the dosh they're talking about.
Seems this puts to bed the dropping players just because we're not re-signing them theory.

I tend to agree letting them go in hindsight for Junior was the wrong call, but that’s the beauty of hindsight.
When Junior came here he was one of if not the in form props in the comp. I remember Parra towelling us up earlier in the season in 2016 and Junior killing it.
Then his debut for us where he steamed rolled Burher. Sadly since 2017 he lost his mongrel to do the tough stuff and wanted to be a ball distributer.
Money well saved IMO

I think his original signing was genius and basically triggered the 2016 run but we obviously cant carry Boyd and he with the way the game is going and Boyd is probably 1/2 the price.

I wish player salaries were made public so we could compare player production to their pay. And compare players in the same position by wage. Jack De Bellin is a gun 80 minute middle player who would probably not be on more than $500K. I think Junior is a very good player but not at $600K plus.

Players vote and its quite cliquey if you believed the rumours last year. Plus they seem to prefer forwards.

I think Boyd shows better potential long term. He is quicker and seems to have a bigger leg drive post contact than what Junior does. Boyd also seems capable of being able to stay upright in tackles better and harder to take down than Junior and can develop that offload in time.

Boyd also seems to bleed green and seems to always be giving his best

Are okay - I wasn’t aware players voted. I can imagine most clubs would be quite cliquey in that case

In 2016 Junior was playing some slightly longer minutes and also was ball playing when he was kind of forced to. Then lst year he was covering for Boyd a lot, I thought. This year he doesn't seem to be putting in the effort. Not quite a FPN or a "that Kiwi bloke who was great and then eventually so underwhelming my senior brain has forgotten his name - ah yes Bronson Harrison" but getting there.

Don't know what the money we spent on Junior was but there will be more mobile props on a lot less. Sure our attack may lack one crash ball specialist (and to be fair a forward with soft hands) but our defence might be a bit more laterally mobile...

He was playing longer minutes in 2016 and going well. I must be one of the few on here who likes Junior Paulo. He came back from the World Cup with the skin fold of a mattress. Despite what Sticky says about training being as good as match play for fitness, the more game time he gets the better I think he will go. I think the 'reported offers' may be 'reporter guesses'. Time will tell if Sticky's affinity with players is a one way or a two way street.

I don't agree.

For years the game had 2 replacements and props played 80 minutes. The likes of Brent Todd and Sam Backo!

The game will slow down with less replacements, which is the whole idea. To bring back attrition, to offset the rampaging plethora of big guys rubbing the skilful guys out of the game.

He'll go to Parra, we'll get Glasby. :nooo
The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.

If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

Parramatta Eels table huge offer for Canberra Raiders prop Junior Paulo

Post by LastRaider »

Things started going pear shape last year with Paulo when he decided to start playing like a half back. Not sure if it was Ricky’s decision or not.

He bought this passing game in which was terrible, playing first receiver out of the scrum and passing to the backs.

He then went back to running straight (but not hard) and developed this lunge stop thing, where he braced for impact, lost his momentum and stopped with no post impact metre’s.

He offers no offload ability and now plays 30 minutes a game.

I’m looking forward to his departure

Lol, agree. And we will pay Glasby significant overs. That would be the most Raiders thing to happen.
