Canberra Raiders hooker Siliva Havili shatters mental barriers

Canberra Raiders coach Ricky Stuart says couple of weeks ago Canberra hooker Siliva Havili couldn't have punched out anywhere near 80 minutes, but the only thing standing in his way was himself.

"I know Ricky has been really big with the mental side of my game, not giving up on anything and letting my mental side take control of my body, and just pushing me to my barriers," Havili said. "I know that’s in me, so that’s a good thing for my self-confidence. I know if we get into that position or if I do have to play those minutes that I am capable of doing it.

What’s the bet Stuart will chop and change halves and hookers again. All the work done from last week will be undone, we won last week due to a stable spine. Stuart will take of Havalli and put Sezer there and bring on Hingano in the halves and we will implode again.

Completely disagree here. Last week when Hingano came on it was to play hooker - which he has done before at the Warriors.

Why on earth would that change this week when Austin is a straight swap for Williams? If Sezer was to go to hooker, Hingano would start and Austin would come off the bench

Also, Sezer had his best game in green last week, Stick said so himself. Surely he wouldn't disrupt that. Hopefully Austin has been told Sezer is the Chief and he has to let Sezer run the show

The alarm bells have sounded since Stick’s ridiculous presser statement of the players “making him apologise to them”. No, **** that. No **** apology required. It only reinforces the pampered, untouchable environment for that top 17 that got us into this situation in the first place.

I can see the eels doing us this week, but it won’t be specifically Austin, Papalii or another individual to blame - it will be this **** soft complacent mental approach to the game that seems to be our default (unless Stick short circuits it for a week here and there with his bluster).

All I’ll say is, you’ll know how it will go down by the end of the first set of 6 we defend (which last week was superb by the way, and resulted in a comfortable win). It’s about mentality.

agreed. and while Paps is a better player than Knight, imo his recall this week will not help create the right long term mentality

I think lots of posts here are jumping to conclusions. While I agree that perhaps there are some positions could be changed up, I don't think having people point fingers on the coach is helpful.

Personally, I hope the culture at the club is that of a high performing one and one that drives accountability. To some degree on what we can see, Stuart has brought that to the club. He did address it in some form. Let it be guys..

I wish the team (Stuart included) the best of luck.. hope the team doesn't become complacent because we beat Bulldogs and goes on field with 100% focus and dedication.

I think even Ricky will agree that he hasn't achieved what Bellamy or Bennett have. Do I agree with everything he does? No. For example I am not really happy we do not have established halves. Also think Wighton could be a NSW centre.

But thats ok... let it be for now. He has improved the club in leaps and bounds. I support him and feel like he has earned the right to more time to prove himself.

A few considerations:
- Compare the team today vs what he inherited. What the team is capable of today is far more now.
- Ricky has proved that he isn't shy to hold players accountable - compare this to what our previous coaches . For years we listed to "Not sure what happened there" and "we trained well so not sure"
- 2016 performance

I said it in the other thread but I thought Croker played his best game for a while last weekend - even before moving to the wing. His first contact was solid and stuck. He beat Foran easily to help setup the second try. If you're calling for him to be moved it's after the wrong game.

Just about everyone played their best game last week.

For me, It’s more the fact that Croker proved himself an asset on the wing and can add value there. And I’m confident there’s better options available to play centre, instead of him.

If Wighton is seriously considering moving clubs due to wanting to play centre, given what we’ve invested in him and given how good he was during a brief stint there about 5 seasons ago, I think we’d be silly not to give him another crack in the #3 jersey.
