Canberra Raiders V Parramatta Eels
Saturday 14 April 7:35pm
Canberra Stadium
Tickets: Click here
TV coverage: Fox League Channel 502
Radio: ABC, 2CC, Mix 106.3

The Raiders finally have their first win of the season! It was a gutsy performance, given the extent of injuries, one highlighted by the defence and the performance of Aidan Sezer as the last half standing. Next the Raiders meet the Parramatta Eels at home, a team that was also winless in the first four rounds.

Who do you think should line up for the Green Machine? Tell us your team here and see how you go in comparison to the official squad when announced. We will include the official line ups in the first post of this thread as soon as they're available.

Assuming Wighton is out and those with head knocks tonight are able to recover with a 9 day turnaround;
1. Cotric
2. Oldfield
3. Croker
4. Leilua
5. Rapana
6. Hingano
7. Sezer
8. Soliola
9. Havilii
10. Paulo
11. Tapine
12. Whitehead
13. Bateman

14. Garvey
15. Boyd
16. Lui
17. Knight

Would consider starting Lui at 13 as a reward for his start to the season, but I think him coming off the bench with Boyd balances the side a little better.

1. Cotric
2. Croker
3. Wighton
4. Leilua
5. Rapana
6. Hingano
7. Sezer
8. Soliola
9. Havili
10. Paulo
11. Tapine
12. Whitehead
13. Bateman

14. Garvey
15. Boyd
16. Lui
17. Knight

Alternatively if Hingano isn't right to play or they want to be more defensively minded I wouldn't object to Wighton at 6, Croker back in the centres and Oldfield on the wing again. Can Oldfield play centre? Could be an option too, and leave the skipper out on the wing.

Same team that beat the Tigers.
Gina Riley: Oh, come on, John. That’s a bit old hat, the corrupt IOC delegate.
John Clarke: Old hat? Gina, in the scientific world when they see that something is happening again and again and again, repeatedly, they don’t call it old hat. They call it a pattern.

I never, EVER, thought I’d say the things I’m suggesting, but here’s the team I’d go with if everyone were fit:

1. Cotric
2. Croker (c)
3. Wighton
4. BJ
5. Rapana
6. Sezer
7. Williams (Hingano)
8. Soliola
9. Havili
10. Paulo
11. Tarps
12. Whitehead
13. Bateman

14. Hingano (Garvey)
15. Boyd
16. Lui
17. Knight

What’s the latest on Sammy’s knee? It’s not good, is it?

I think Ricky said medial ligament which is the same thing Cleary did I think so he'll be gone for a while

Dammit! At least it’s not cruciate anyway... let’s just hope he resists the urge to bring Blake “hey look at me” Austin back into the side

Let’s see how Hingano/Sezer works with Garvey coming off the bench! And Havili showed he can play a LOT more minutes, has this just been a coaching bungle all along?

I'm sure Havili played longer than 25 minutes per match for Tonga in the World Cup and after the 'toughest off season ever' should have been on for longer minutes. He looks to me a player who just loves to be in the thick of the action. Maybe adrenalin kicks in and he rises to the challenge. I can only think that the 'training tests' they do, showed he would not last longer. However for some players they need the match pressure to produce their best. I remember reading about Gordon Tallis with him saying he was never that great at lifting weights in the gym and was well down the measured 'strength and conditioning' pecking order. But when on the field he took the physical challenge as something he needed to win. It drove him. Havili looks to be cut from the same cloth or as others say on here 'I like the cut of his jib'.

Hingano still has to pass the concussion test but the extra days off will hopefully have him fit. If so he deserves to be promoted into the starting side and Haveli's performance IMO has created an opportunity for Garvey.

Papa is the only player I am struggling to accommodate but assuming he has a strong match for Mounties, I would be bringing him into the middle off the bench, in place of Knight.

See I think with Sezer doing what he did last night as the primary half and dictating play, Austin would have a role as our second half but on the proviso he stays away from kicking and organising duties. Just chime in when necessary and focus on making defenders second guess themselves. He needs to go back to what he used to do best and focus on his running game. He tries to get far too involved and it completely conflicts with Sezer's game and concurrently stifle our attack.

For that I'd go:

1. Cotric
2. Croker
3. Wighton
4. Leilua
5. Rapana
6. Austin
7. Sezer
8. Lui
9. Havili
10. Paulo
11. Tapine
12. Whitehead
13. Soliola

14. Garvey
15. Boyd
16. Knight
17. Papalii

18. Hingano
19. Bateman
20. Oldfield
21. Murchie

If it's too troublesome for Stuart to tell Austin to stay out of Sezer's way, then Hingano > Austin. Clearly. Sezer needs to be our go to man.

I know I’m on here bagging this team and I give it to them, but when you take your kids to 90% of the games and support em with passion it pisses me off.
I go to nearly every game bar the ones in Qld so I get frustrated when I see this ****.
Sam Williams must go and start blooding the young kids who wanna have a go like knight.
Papalli is pedestrian and lazy keep Sezer he can play and Austin I’m not too sure of.
Wighton to centre Croker to wing citric at the back
It’s not hard muscle up and you can win
Still dirty on Edrick lee for the dropped ball against storm never forgive that mongo!

1. Cotric
2. Croker (c)
3. Wighton
4. Leluia
5. Rapana
6. Hingano
7. Sezer
8. Paulo
9. Havili
10. Boyd
11. Tapine
12. Whitehead
13. Soliola
14. Garvey
15. Lui
16. Papilii
17. Knight

I would like to see Paulo and Boyd start again. When they were on together in last nights game, they were really dominate together. I think Soliola needs to play 13, he was every where last night and proved he can play big minutes. Bateman I just can’t have him in the team, just doesn’t offer enough so I would bring Papilii back in. I think Papilii and Lui coming in of the bench to replace Boyd and Paulo would be strong.

If Papalii turns up for the Mounties, I would go with:

1. Cotric
2. Croker
3. Wighton
4. Leilua
5. Rapana
6. Hingano
7. Sezer
8. Paulo
9. Havili
10. Lui
11. Tapine
12. Whitehead
13. Soliola

14. Garvey
15. Boyd
16. Papalii
17. Knight

I named the same team but with a slightly different forward rotation in the game day thread last night, but I reckon this is the way forward for us until we pick up new players. I would be ecstatic to see something like that, I've been calling for 1. Cotric 2. Croker 3. Wighton and Hingano/Sezer in the halves for a minute now. I know we will likely see Bateman in the lineup but I don't rate him as a first grader and will never name him in any of my lists (barring injuries to our pack).

I imagine the overwhelming tide of opinion will be for Sezer/Hingano halves, Wighton centre and Croker wing.

Hope we get to see it... hard to see Wighton getting moved as a coach favourite, but fingers crossed

Sezer and Austin just don't gel as a combo. Austin needs to remain in Mounties til he finds a deal elsewhere.

1. Wighton (ban pending) / Cotric
2. Cotric / Oldfield
3. Croker
4. Leilua
5. Rapana
6. Hingano
7. Sezer
8. Soliola

13. Bateman

14. Garvey
15. Lui
16. Boyd
17. Knight

Yet more spine shifting so instead we'll probably see Austin come straight in for Williams and Hingano off the bench again. Add to that stuart seems to have no time for Garvey and I'll be very surprised if he gets a call up.
If Papalii has a big game for mounties we'd probably have to squeeze him in somewhere. After that performance against the dogs no one deserves to be dropped. It won't be at 2nd row. That ship has sailed with Tapine and Whitehead on board.

Certainly could. Given the defensive success of Whitehead on the edge you'd have to think he'd stay there though. Add to that our attrition rate and you need a genuine play maker at 6.

Garvey in for Williams - Hingano into the halves.
Papa onto the bench for Knight provided he has a near MOM performance for Mounties.

This should be the team to consider for Potato

1. Cotric (abbey if wighton not playing)
2. Croker
3. Wighton (Cotric if wighton playing)
4. BJ
5. Rapana
6. Sezer
7. Higano/Austin (depending on higano passing HIA)
8. Soliola
9. Havili
10. Paulo
11. Tapine
12. Whitehead
13. Bateman (as much as it kills me to name him in the 17)

14. Garvey
15. Boyd
16. Lui
17. Knight

If I were coach the 17 this week would be:

1. Wighton (Abbey if suspended)
2. Croker (c) (never thought Id say it, but I also wasn't sold on him under the high ball)
3. Cotric (Happy for Toots and Nick to mix it up though. His apprenticeship needs to progress. Hell, name them the other way and still mix it up)
4. Leilua
5. Rapana
6. Hingano (Austin if he fails the HIA, as Williams has a medial, which is 3-10wks depending on grading)
7. Sezer
8. Lui (has earnt a start)
9. Havili
10. Paulo
11. Tapine
12. Whitehead
13. Soliola

14. Garvey
15. Boyd (Ricky needs to give him a min. of 40mins split by halftime)
16. Bateman
17. Knight

18. Oldfield
19. Austin (I believe he is out the door)
20. Papalii (I believe he is out the door)
21. Murchie

If I was the coach I wouldn't be super concerned at this point in time about omitting players if they are out the door. Just pick your best 17 you can each week or you'll find the door before they will. As the season pans out you can then look at the longer term view if we look like missing finals, but in my mind you definitely pick your best 17 in round 6 and i'd be putting Papalli back on the bench and hoping he comes back absolutely steaming about playing Mounties and missing that first win of the season.
We continue to **** about with blokes that are part of some fraternity. It's infuriating.

Was Austin and Papaili in the dressing rooms after the game last night. I could see Hodgo but that's about it.

I 90% agree with Matt's team suggestion, although I would drop Bateman for Papaili.

Yes, both were in the dressing room.
Austin was the 1st Raiders to leave the ground.

Blake didnt stay back to watch the boys last week at brookie, sounds like he did minimum last night

Papa stays back last night, had a good luck/go raiders post on instagram etc

Blake needs to realise ricky is watching all this, its not just what you do on the field that matters

I just don't get these people writing Cotric off after one game but also insisted we persist with Jack for two years no matter how badly he messed up.
