Canberra Raiders star Jack Wighton in alleged nightclub fight

THE immediate playing future of Canberra star Jack Wighton is under a cloud over allegations he was involved in a serious assault of up to three men at an ACT nightclub before the start of the season.

He and a mate were in an alleged fight with four other men in the pre-season at a nightclub in Canberra. We told the integrity unit straight away. Police are now looking likely to press charges, although no mention of what they are or if they are even against him. If he is charged the Integrity unit would take action.

I find the timing of this getting out very interesting.

Far out. Alleged so far so innocent until proven guilty but come on now. How hard is it to stay out of trouble.

The article says police have CCTV footage and interviewed Wighton and are set to press charges.

Wighton was out with a friend — not a footballer — when the pair allegedly became involved in an argument and then a fight with a group of four men.

I'd heard about this over the past few months. I was waiting for it to drop, and what an opportune time!

Given the NRL Track record you would think it would have to be pretty serious charges to get him sacked and banned for any signifigcant period of time.

Great time to make an example of someone again to take the focus away from Matt Lodge and the appalling officiating that has been the focal point of the season so far.

Police are about to lay charges?
Buzz had it that far down his list of scheduled crises?
We realised paying him 700k was crazy?

That last one is more of a Roosters move though.

Yeah, I heard about this in the leadup to the Titans game, apparently it's why Abbey was flown up last minute.

I'm just surprised it's taken this long for the story to drop!

My question is, though... does this buy Stuart more time or less??

It's not his go!
He was suffering from a mental condition at the time!
He's been doing charity work and counselling since the incident!
He hasn't touched a drop of alcohol! (since this story broke)

It seems like no one was seriously injured, nobody was on drugs and it wasn't directed at a woman or animal, so I don't think the NRL has any benchmarks for punishment.

Yep, been consistently one of our best in the opening rounds. You might be on to something. Time for a good old bonding session for the team

I'd suggest he is dropped immediately. Punching on in the city isn't a smart idea.

The Raiders have the opportunity to make a stand on this sort of thing - and I'd hope they would take it.

Son, we live in a world that has forums, and those forums have to be guarded by Mods. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Nickman? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lucy, and you curse GE. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that GE’s moderation, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, keeps threads on track and under the appropriately sized, highlighted green headings.
You want moderation because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that forum -- you need me on that forum. We use words like "stay on topic," "use the appropriate forum," "please delete." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very moderation that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you get a green handle and edit a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think about moderation.

I thought this kind of thing ended when the Private Bin shut
Gina Riley: Oh, come on, John. That’s a bit old hat, the corrupt IOC delegate.
John Clarke: Old hat? Gina, in the scientific world when they see that something is happening again and again and again, repeatedly, they don’t call it old hat. They call it a pattern.

It happened his bday weekend which was the Superbowl weekend.

It's been floating around for ages.

And I for one could not be happier about it. It's time this club moved on. Let's hope Ricky and the QLC Management follow closely.

I know of a certain identity (not a footballer) in Canberra who used to go out with a couple of guys as security. Not for his protection, but to stop idiots trying to prove themselves by taking him on. If they had managed to get to him, it would have been very, very ugly for them.

Footballers are in the public eye and for some, this means they are a target.

I don't know what happened here; I'm just addressing this question.
