Fighting is still assault. It's not like boxing etc where there's a legal defence. Even a fight on the field would probably be considered assault if someone decided to pursue it (eg Daryl Brohman)

How hard is it to stay out of trouble? I get that Jack is a Raider and identifiable to the public - but Canberra is a pretty sedate place to go out based on my memory of going to university there about a decade ago.

Depends what happened- assault, assault and battery, assault occasioning grevious harm if someone had an eye or a jaw busted etc. Affray would certainly be in the mix as it occurred in public I involved a group.

It's can't be true - not one of them have shown any fight all year and even if he was there and a fight broke out he'd be out of position to get involved.

Many of these Police based charges (but not necessarily this one) for assault at nightclubs are based on whether one of those involved want to press charges. Most fights at nightclubs amount to nothing.

Wanting to press charges against a footballer (in my opinion) directly correlates with the chances of getting dollars in payments from the player, club or media.

Mate, when you punch on in the city against a few blokes....most people know what's happened and there isn't much need to jump to conclusions. Canberra is a small place.

Things have changed since then. I've spoken to my former work mates who are in their late 20s and early 30s about going out nightclubbing in Civic and they tell me they don't feel safe.

Gutted to hear this this morning. Began reading through the information and now have a lot of thoughts.

First, straight up: this blows, and Jack should have known better. Some punishment is in order if the club hasn't already done it.

But second: that revolting criminal pig Lodge is playing first grade every week. Anyone who says that Jack should be sacked on an allegation over which charges haven't been laid (yet) can go do something very painful to themselves while Lodge plays.

I don't trust the NRL to do the right thing as far as I could throw them. They copped a lot of backlash over the Lodge thing, and could be out searching for a player to make an example of. And we've been screwed over big time by the NRL in these situations before (coughDuganplayingOriginsixweekslatercough).
And to all the people who doubted me, hello to them as well. - Mark Webber, Raiders Ballboy and Unluckiest F1 Driver Ever

I'm attacking in the right way, instead of just...attacking in the general direction. - Max Aaron (also eerily apropos for the Green Machine)

Dugans biggest crime was drinking cruisers on top of a roof top.

If he's bashed someone its up there with Ben Stokes, like Jack has stated himself...I'm not really smart.

We have 2 wingers with so much potential wasted out on the wings, both winners... tah **** tah.
