Canberra Raiders V Manly Sea Eagles
Saturday 31 March 7:30pm
Brookvale Oval
Tickets: Click here
TV coverage: Fox League live Channel 502
Radio: ABC, 2CC, Mix 106.3

It is hard to imagine a worse start to the season for the Canberra Raiders. They have now lost their three opening matches, to teams that finished below them on the ladder in 2017. They have lost them in the last five minutes, by two points or less. It was a diabolical loss to the Warriors in Round 3, leading by seven and conceding a converted try and two field goal in the last five minutes. In Round 4 on Easter Saturday, the Raiders travel to Brookvale Oval to face the Manly Sea Eagles. The team the Raiders lost to in golden point twice in 2017. Can the start to the season get even worse in 2018?

Who do you think should line up for the Green Machine? Tell us your team here and see how you go in comparison to the official squad when announced. We will include the official line ups in the first post of this thread as soon as they're available.

Our defence is horrendous.

Austin and Williams have to go. We simply cannot afford to have them in the defensive line.

100% of the focus must be on defence- at training and at selection meetings.

Crokers performance doesn’t justify his position in the side, having a c next to your name doesn’t give you immunity. Cotric to centre, oldfield to wing. Austin and sezer in halves, Havili to start Garvey on the bench. 3 halves isn’t working!
But Stuart won’t chnage a thing only coach in the nrl that persists with same positions and combinations after losing 3 games straight. His stubberness will bring this club into further dark times.

Paulo's work rate is far from FG standard. He is averaging 74 metres and 17 tackles across the opening three rounds. Perhaps a few 80 minute games at Mounties will get him mentally and physically ready for FG because at the moment he is more a liability than an asset.

Austin is rubbish, has been for more than 12 months.

Bateman has to be held accountable for his unforgivable loss of concentration on the Johnson field goal.

I can see our only change being Tapine coming in for Knight. He has made it clear there is outside influences (refs/luck) that are causing our losses and not the players.

Former Bulldogs Craig Garvey and Brad Abbey were intent on winning against their old side, but Garvey’s absence for much of the second half hurt Ryan Carr’s men.

Does anyone who heard the TV broadcast know why? Injury?

I don't recall that from the broadcast. Maybe they are preparing him for first grade bench?

I have no confidence in this match already, and I want to be honest, If we win I hope its a defensive win like 24-8 not a 30-28 win, if we lose I hope its a thrashing so that real changes can be made.

this is my team vs what i would like to see

1. Cotric/Abby (hearing he is killing it with mounties)
2. Croker (3 rounds in offers nothing, steamrolled in defense, slow in attack.
3. Wighton or Cotric
4. BJ played his best game in a while, still doesnt have that 2016 confidence
5. Rapa best player every week,
6. Austin.... is just soo boring and predictable, your massive over the top dummy pass doesnt work anymore
7. Sezer.... played ok, but time for a change
8. Boyd....i bagged him in rnd 1, and I take it back, he has been playing well
9. Havili....good player, although i actually would love to see him come off the bench as impact, if he can cause that much damage to fresh opponents imagine what he will do to tired opponents
10. Sia....playing ok runs hardd
11. Papa.... cost us the knights game, im not sure if he is but papa is no longer an 80 min player
12. Tapine.... missed him hardd
13. Whitehead....plays with heart

14. Garvey...would love to see him have a go
15. Knight/maka...just picked him because i dont want bateman or lui
16. Paulo.... he is ok, but for his size he is overrated, he should be our version of fifita
17. Hunt...give him a run

I swear if he had tilse, white, campo, tll, mccrone, with the exact leads in rounds 123, they would of held on to win, yet we have a better team then that era and managed to lose, boy hodgson is such a massive loss, i hope he doesnt become a post ACL Campese.

to sum it all up, croker stands out the most for me, they have prob been 3 or his worst games ever. the halves suck but it was the 2016,17 halves so lets just stick to basics. fowards are fine in makeing metres in all 3 games but please that is no monster pack....hopefully yet.

to sum it all up, croker stands out the most for me, they have prob been 3 or his worst games ever. the halves suck but it was the 2016,17 halves so lets just stick to basics. fowards are fine in makeing metres in all 3 games but please that is no monster pack....hopefully yet.
Only dissagree with your Lui bit. We are getting decent value there. The rest is pretty reasoned.
Matt, you like Lui? I see nothing from him, no offloads, no tackle breaks or busts, Papa, Tapine, Whitehead, Sia all have a little bit extra to offer, i seen him, now lets try someone else, just like wighton, lets put Abby or cotric or rapana, lets see something different.

Cotric to right centre, Leilua to left centre, Croker to left wing.

Thanks.

1. Rapana
2. Cotric
3. Croker
4. Wighton
5. Leilua
6. Sezer
7. Williams
8. Paulo
9. Havili
10. Boyd
11. Papalli
12. Tapine
13. Whitehead

14. Austin
15. Lui
16. Soliola
17. Hunt

Wighton has been strong at fullback over a long period of time but isn't a match winner. In an effort to strengthen our defence I like him at centre and I think Leilua will be just as effective bringing the ball back and out of dummy half on the wing like Mansour at Penrith. Rapana to fullback is just giving our best player more time, more ball, more opportunity.

I also don't like Paulo on the bench to cover for a lack of forward depth. Start your best guys, give Lui, Hunt, Gubb the opportunity to do the job. They HAVE to fill the void when Boyd/Paulo come off if they can't do that why do we have them..

Jack, Oldfield, Cotric, Bj, Rapana, Hingano, Sezer, Boyd, Havili, Sia, Tapine, Papa, Whitehead. Bench of Garvey, Bateman, Lui, Jnr.

Watching yesterday the middles at Mounties were really awful defensively. The Murchie hype is a bit over the top as well. He is miles off regular first grade imo.

This is one of the few games I can get to this year. I’m unsure whether I should go
