Happy to see smelly on the edge.
Bateman will be ok in the middle rotating with Gubby.

Soliola says "frustrating is probably a nice way to put it after our first game" which was capped off with a video review session that went almost 40 minutes over time on Tuesday.
At least they're doing something off the field.

40 minutes is sweet FA......

Would have liked to have read that words were exchanged, players had to be separated and players were pushing to be given a chance at certain positions.

And Bj was giggling near the chip machine

Wouldn’t surprise me to see Garvey and Oldfield come into the team on game day. Most likely for BJ and Austin would be my guess.

Good luck to the Mounties coach on that one

That would require accountability something this team has been lacking for the better part of a decade.

I know the 17 named are unlikely to be the final 17 but why would there be 3 props on the bench? Selection games still being played when the defence needs to be fixed. Crikey

I agree with your changes. Always like reading your comments, so interested to know who would you start at 6? And why?

Cheers mate. It’s selected now so guessing doesn’t make too much sense but I’m actually with Stuart. I love the idea of Austin as an impact player but I don’t think changing halves mid game is a really viable option.

Stuart opted for this theory so it wo9uld be a massive mistake to move away from it so early IMO.

I’m not as anti Sezder at hooker as everyone else. He struggled first round but I’m really not sold Garvey is an answer moving forward as everyone else. I voiced and stand by the idea that all 3 of our main halves should play ahead of the second hooker. I think Sezer can improve but what did have me worried was our defence when he was on. We got a bit smashed but I think that is as much to do with Bateman being on for most of that period.

Williams’ work was the best we’ve seen at first receiver for some time i reckon and I thought Austin and Wighton looked good out the back.

I’m just a bit concerned that what I think is our best alternative bench hooker option (Hingano) wont get any practise there at all because Garvey will be playing 80 in reserves every week.

VIDEO: Canberra Raiders prop Shannon Boyd: We're determined to put things right on Sunday

Raiders Prop Shannon Boyd admitted that the Raiders round one loss to the Gold Coast Titans on Sunday was hard to swallow but the Cowra Magpies junior claimed that the squad were determined to put things right when the green machine take on the Knights at GIO Stadium on Sunday.

"Everyone's disappointed with how things panned out over the weekend but at the same time we're all determined to put it right this weekend," Boyd said.

It said 40 minutes OVER TIME, which means that that 40 minutes was additional to whatever original time they had allocated for it. For all we know, that extra forty minutes meant they spent two hours in video review or something.

Anyone else not that impressed by the Knights forward pack? Their prop rotation is pretty weak. We should be able to get an edge bashing it straight up the middle. Boyd was good last week, if he retains that form and Paulo lifts a bit I think we can blow them off the park. Will still require holding the ball, a bit of mental fortitude and not doing stupid **** constantly, so I don't expect it to happen.

I’ve got no doubt we will start well and blow them off the park - the problem is holding onto the lead until final whistle

Siliva Havili wants more minutes as Canberra Raiders hooker

Siliva Havili has revealed a pre-game text message from the man he replaced, Josh Hodgson, calmed his nerves before his Canberra Raiders debut on Sunday night.

"The goal (is to play more minutes) but it's up to Stick (Ricky Stuart) where he plays me, he's the coach but for myself I want to play more minutes and get to use to the pace of the NRL, and the more games I can get that match fitness,'' he said. "I felt like I had more to give when I came off because of the attack we had from the completion rate we had more energy for the back end."

Last week Ash Taylor made 9 tackles Elgey made 7 when you have blokes like Papalii and Tapine on your edge I can’t understand why you aren’t directing them at a couple of young halves.

I will be disappointed if Pearce doesn’t make 20+ tackles this week.

Five Things: Raiders v Titans

The bulldozing New Zealand prop, Charlie Gubb, is set to make his first appearance in lime green this weekend. Gubb will add plenty of power to an already huge forward pack when he comes off the bench on Sunday.

After spending the last five seasons at the Warriors, Gubb will be looking to play his role in helping the Raiders secure their first win of the season.

I agree. We should be upgrading him to the top squad for 2019. He looks good now. Should be even better with a year of development. Should be trying to lock down a bench spot in the top grade next year.

That's an interesting stat. Are we over-feeding our wide men (playing to a strength) at the cost of wearing down the opposition halves (a few more knocks and a but more gassed and possibly dropped confidence if they miss a couple of tackles) perhaps? Is that why Ash Taylor had a field day?

There's "worrying about us and what we do well" which is king in RL.
Cricket tends to consider more, "What would the opposition really f'ing hate us to do right now?".

Blake Austin admits Canberra Raiders need to be better at closing out NRL games

Canberra Raiders five-eighth Blake Austin admits they need to be better at closing out close games, but it's too easy to say that means being better in the final five minutes.

"We've got to close those games out. We've got to make sure we're tucking the ball under our wing and finishing where we need to be finishing in our sets," Austin said. "There's plenty of moments that go into winning a football match and saying the last five or six minutes - that's not exactly where we lost the match on the weekend.
