I was talking to my Roosters mate today about him, I like his motor, goes hard, plays tough, would be a smart buy. Played well on Saturday.

But the word smart and Raiders don’t usually go together.

Any team who gets Watson, needs to play him at FB. His defense is poor. That would be the only way Id want him, however it does mean moving Jack, which Im not big on.

As for Rossdog, you'd grab him as depth only. And only if his is at bottom dollar.

Not a game breaking forward, just a toiler. Not sure about him TBH. Looks like just another middle of the road middle forward to me.

Like many others here, not wrapped in our decision to sign cappy, but if there is a silver lining, it's hopefully that he has his eye on a couple of kiwi juniors to bring across with him. Following is a list of off contract players. Would any of these be worth signing?

James Bell,
Matiu Love-Henry,
Junior Pauga,
Patrick Sipley

There is a rumour we have signed Pauga, he’s got plenty of potential imo, needs to add some size though, James bell is an honest toiler in the Fensom mold, don’t think we need him with our back row options, Haven’t seen much of Sipley or Love-Henry but both are quite well liked by those that have seen them

Just based on his profile he is 22 year old 85kg center from the Warriors feeder team who came back after an ACL last year. Sounds like he is a good runner and makes a lot of linebreaks. Hard to see him putting enough weight on to play first grade at his age.

He’s currently in negotiations for an extension at Roosters. His stock has risen there this year. Doubt he’ll be leaving them.

you think the word smart and raiders don't usually go together because they have not signed a guy with less than a handful of games in a good team playing a few minutes off the bench and has not really done much at all and we signed a guy in the running for the man of steel in the super league? turn it up!

Interesting point of view from Matty Johns the other day. He was talking about the GF and said how the creation of the Melbourne Storm was basically the beginning of the end for Canberra and Brisbane’s dominance.

He explained how Brisbane had the pick of the Qld players, and Canberra would pick up the ones Brisbane didn’t sign. But since Storm entered the comp, the Qld players skip Canberra and go to Melbourne.

Logic makes sense. You could probably make connections between Canberra’s fall and Melbournes rise

Matty isn't really right, we picked up the best Brisbane players until Brisbane came in but then it died off very quickly. There were very few QLD players recruited between 1988 and 1998, so I don't think Melbourne hastened it at all.

We actually largely fixed it with the Souths Logan stuff but the NSWRL made that non-viable.

Yeah, without wanting to be ageist, i cant really get excited about a 22 year old who i had never heard of before this thread coming in.

Jacks and Mann would add to the squad nicely with Bateman and Sutton also. Along with Milne maybe ? That's some good depth

Problem is Mann would be overpaid for what he offers.

Unless there is a player like TPJ who would genuinely add wins I'd rather we just pad the squad out with minimum wagers and juniors and target players for 2020.

Kindof agree here. Mann strikes me as a player who seems decent enough, but unable to cement a first grade spot in a leading team. Seems like he we're aiming for mediocrity with a recruitment like that. I too think perhaps if we are going to pay overs for someone, let it be a player who can change our fortunes.

He played all 26 games this yr for the Dragz. Admittedly, most were as the bench utility, but thats a permanent spot in the Top 17. He should have been the other winger over Nightingale all yr.

6?

Is this with Jacks coming too? Or instead of him?

I don't see us getting both, but they would be vying for the #6.

If we lost Jack for an extended period, Mann could play FB, centre or wing depending on the reshuffle.

Mann played a lot of lock forward this yr. Dragons were pretty solid defensively (for the most part, as they did have a couple of blowouts). They were the 6th best D.

Mann missed 32 tackles this yr. 82% tackle efficiency. Only 9 try causes.

Yeah, I see him as a versatile player which every squad needs. The Roosters had Mitch Aubusson this year who could play a number of positions at FG level. He doesn't need to be a super star. He only needs to be FG quality as a defender with some ability in attack. I think he meets those criteria. I hope he is in addition to Jacks. Now the GF is over we may get some word from the club on which players are looking for opportunity in green.

Roosters have a team packed full of superstars, they can carry an Aubusson.
