Solid player. If you're looking to spend money elsewhere you could do a lot worse than having him on the bench or pushing for a start next to a better forward than Soliola.
Probably would come with a bit of a Melbourne tax though.
I think he looks a very solid player. Not a word beater by any means, but doesn't miss tackles, and takes the dirty carries. Decent cheap prop option.

has a year to run but if they've kept glasby, kaufusi and co he's not going to start at Melbourne. Maybe with the lure of a run on spot and $$ he might get keen.

News has just come out that Newcastle have signed Glasby. Ah Mau looks like he might be returning to the Warriors.

If both Boyd and Paulo are gone, there isn't going to anything decent leftover. Very concerning...

I would be chasing the following players:

Ah Mau - 1st choice
Taupau (early release)
Klemmer (early release)

Pretty much anyone else available isn't any better than what we already have at the Mounties.

Lets hope Hodgo's second job during his downtime is scouring the Super League for new front rowers. He should know more about that league than any scout....

If clubs are paying over $650k for Boyd and Paulo, we ain’t getting Klemmer cheap at the Raiders.

Broncos and Roosters have an amazing ability to pick up players from other clubs who are still carrying freight on their salary cap.

Just think about Cameron Blair or Kurt Baptiste.

How would we not be able to put a competitive bid in for Taupau or Klemmer when both our props are leaving. That would easily be 1.1-1.2 million in cap available.

Get one premier prop and replace the other with someone on minimum wage (e.g. Lui, Hunt, Knight, Guler)....

Dogs are paying 500k for Graham this year, it would need to be a deal like that.

Youre right he would probably go to the Roosters though.

Can't wait for Sutton to be our premier prop next year...:-/

Ryan Sutton:
2018 statistics:
Runs: 182
Metres gained: 1267
Metres per carry: 6.96
Tackles Made: 320
Missed tackles: 68
Tackle Efficiency: 78.75%

John Bateman:
2018 statistics:
Runs: 186
Metres gained: 1287
Metres per carry: 6.92
Tackles Made: 205
Missed tackles: 36
Tackle Efficiency: 82.43%

Sutton - Absolutely terrible average metres per carry, but then again the Super League is a different beast. (e.g. They don't really play up the middle and PCM aren't as important - Super league players tend to focus on PTB speed to get it out to the outside backs).

Bateman - Looks like he is bit of a handful with the amount of tackle breaks and offloads he does (leads his team with 45 TB and 21 OL). Still don't know where he fits in though considering we already have Tapine and Whitehead in second row (both 80min players).

With the way the market is this year wouldn't be surprised if we see a 1 year deal to someone with experience to give us a bit of depth as a stop gap.

Sam Tagataese
Jeremy Latimore
Tim Grant

Are all old heads that would spend a lot of time on the fringe of first grade and help guys like Guler and Horsburgh develop.

Of course that all flips if someone falls out of a side under a salary cap squeeze (Dogs, Manly, Panthers).

Just a heads up, the missed tackle stat you quote is actually marker tackles (MT). They use MI for missed tackles in super league stats. Sutton has 18 and Bateman 11 and both have tackle efficiency of 95%.

My bad about the tackles. Didn't pick that up in my findings.

I reckon we could get tolman with the dogs carrying some of his salary. Not a big fan, but has plenty of experience and can play big minutes. At the right price I reckon he would be good

He's no Tapau but at the right price (Bulldogs paying a fair chunk) I agree. Mobile props at the right price are the way 2 go.

Considering Boyd averages about 9 hitups a game (real), getting a player like Tolman, who is a good middle defender, might end up net positive.

With the two English blokes, I’d be looking at Bateman/Whitehead on the edges with Tapine 13, and Papa at prop.

I personally would love to see Tapine in the second row permanently. Could turn in to the game's best in the position and already doing a remarkable job. I would much rather Whitehead back to 13 if that's the direction we're headed.

Not against the Tolman idea but we would need somebody with a bit of mongrel to complement him.

Tolman would want to be on near minimum wage with the dogs making up the rest... I think he’s well past it

I wonder if he’s a realistic option given we wanted to keep him last year but didn’t have room for him in the cap? Was very good at times at the back end of last year. He could probably do Boyd’s job for half of what we were offereing Shannon

I wouldnt move Tapine from the edges. I think i'd move Whitehead and Papalii into the middle before i'd move Tapine. I feel like he's the cusp of establishing himself as a genuine star on the edge, no way im moving him

thought of him myself today haha I reckon that his nrl ship has sailed.
TPJ will always be one to watch, still has ties with Stick.
Reading a wigan forum they don't rate Sutton particularly highly and expect Bateman to stay over there.

Tpj has ties with stick? I assumed they wouldn’t be on great terms given TPJ couldn’t wait to get out of here?

Yea Sutton is a strange one that particular forum don’t seem to rate him especially going back a while but he seems to be highly rated on wiganrugby fans especially lately http://forums.rlfans.com/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=615222
Both Sutton and Bateman pretty much confirmed to be coming to Canberra according to the above forum too
