Id still watch it on TV, but be far less invested and regimented about it. I don't think id choose another team.

Re: A theoretical question
For me, if the Raiders were booted out of the NRL, I would never support another NRL club, I would ramp up my support for my other sporting love, The Sydney Swans, further to that, I wouldn't bother watching much NRL.

Re: A theoretical question
I'd probably hang around a couple of years, following the Raiders I loved most as they played with (and were probably destroyed by) other teams, but I'd not have another team, and eventually I'd leave NRL altogether. I have my backups. Daniel Ricciardo and practically every figure skater I've ever loved are more than enough to break my heart.
And to all the people who doubted me, hello to them as well. - Mark Webber, Raiders Ballboy and Unluckiest F1 Driver Ever
I'm attacking in the right way, instead of just...attacking in the general direction. - Max Aaron (also eerily apropos for the Green Machine)

Re: A theoretical question
I’d have a go at seeing how the Wolfpack went- if they make the English super league that would be enough novelty and just interest from a sport and what it could do to the game and to see how the whole thing played out plus the chance to watch some league without wrestling and nrl protected species annoying me.
If that didn’t pan out I wouldn’t watch nrl even on tv.

A theoretical question
What if the Raiders merged with Illawarra back in the day instead of St George. Would that change anything?
I’ve been trying to rack my brain and think of potential lineups with Illawarra and Canberra juniors. I think we would have been more of a force
Off the top of my head, we could have had Jason Ryles, Luke Bailey, Morris Twins, Trent Barrett, Matt Cooper fighting for spots during some of the darkest moments in Raiders History

Re: A theoretical question
I suppose it would depend if it was a merge or take over......
There always seems to be a dominate team in the mergers, and if it wasn't us then I reckon I would have slowly walked away
If nothing else been even more bitter towards the NRL lol

I'd say without the Raiders I'd only watch Origin.

Gina Riley: Oh, come on, John. That’s a bit old hat, the corrupt IOC delegate.

Re: A theoretical question
I was a St George fan before the Raiders came along, primarily because several people from where I came from played for them. When the Raiders started I knew about half of the players quite well and had a natural interest in how they prospered, or not. Now I watch the Raiders alone, no interest in any other club or the wider NRL at all due to bitter disappointment with the running of the NRL. During my life I was a player, player coach, coach of senior and junior teams, official, referee, local judiciary member, and local rep team selector so obviously I used to have some commitment to the game that I just don't feel any more. Like Nickman I didnt watch the World Cup, and often don't watch the State of Origin games. I do watch local Canberra Cup games, mostly as a form of exercise as I walk to games in Woden and Tuggeranong.
If the Raiders go, I'm finished.

I was a mad keen supporter of the Cannons back in the day too! Do you remember when they used to play at the showground? What a great player Herb McEachern was.reptar wrote:It still makes me sad. And yes, I remember games out at NATEXCranky Old Man wrote:I was a mad keen supporter of the Cannons back in the day too! Do you remember when they used to play at the showground? Re: A theoretical question
Tonight is an exclamation mark on why I no longer follow the game I grew up and fell in love with. It's truly depressing the state the game is in currently compared to how it was.Krypto wrote: ↑January 14, 2018, 4:37 pm I would stop following rubgy league altogether. I used to be a league fan in general as well as the Raiders, however how the game is run these days with the refereeing, TPA, NRL favourtism of certain teams etc, I'm now just purely a Raiders fan. The Raiders are the only reason I still follow the game so if they go, I go.
Part of me hope the Raiders are kicked out of the game as I feel **** following this pathetic sport and how it's currently managed and run. It doesn't deserve mine or anyone's support and hard earned.
Re: A theoretical question
I feel your pain. I've signed up with the Canberra A League bid.
Because world football is run so much more honestly... and the FFA are so professional. Maybe it's time to watch e-sports instead.

The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

Re: A theoretical question
I'd casually follow RL, maybe enjoy Penrith wins more than others just because of my history in the area but wouldnt really support them.
Probably get more into the NFL, if that was even possible, continue my growing appreciation for NBA, maybe stumble into a proper AFL team.. But RL wouldnt be a thing

Re: A theoretical question
to be honest I get a lot more joy out of my sons junior footy then I do NRL these days.
Rugby League has quite a nice community in my area.

Re: A theoretical question
I've been to more Boston Celtics games this year than Raiders ones.
Cost me a bit of money to do it, but it was worth it.
Breaks my heart, just quietly.

Son, we live in a world that has forums, and those forums have to be guarded by Mods. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Nickman? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lucy, and you curse GE. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that GE’s moderation, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, keeps threads on track and under the appropriately sized, highlighted green headings.
You want moderation because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that forum -- you need me on that forum. We use words like "stay on topic," "use the appropriate forum," "please delete." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very moderation that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you get a green handle and edit a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think about moderation.

I spend all day every Saturday running around the Sunny Coast watching junior union. My younger son plays 10s and 11s, and my older plays 12s.
With training and midweek touch, we have rugby Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday
Love every second of it.

Re: A theoretical question
I played for Yandina raiders. One year we won one game against Pomona.
Good times.
That second division comp had more teams and old has beens like me than it should. But it was fun. Even got to talk to Billy Moore a few times. Proposed to my wife at his former restaurant I did. While wearing an onion on my belt, as was the fashion of the time
