Canberra Raiders set to extend local rookie Nick Cotric as NRL close in on development fee plan

THE Raiders have hatched a plan to sign rookie of the year candidate Nick Cotric on a long-term deal. Cotric, off contract next season, is set to be rewarded for his breakout rookie year with CEO Don Furner confirming the club has started talks to extend his deal.

“We would love to keep Nick and we are working on that at the moment,” Furner said. “He is born and bred here and came through our junior system.”

Two year deal with multiple options for extensions renewable from the club's side only please. With performance standard targets and morals clauses. Gives the club the option to onsell the contract to another club if that issue were to ever come up.
I didn't do it. No one saw me do it. You can't prove anything.
Except we can. Except we did. And soon EVERYONE will know too.

Is November the 1st the date players can start to talk to other clubs or vice versa. If so we have roughly 2 months to get a long term deal locked in. No excuses get it done Donny!!!

The non solicitation period is a farce. Managers are talking with clubs long before that 1st Nov start date. Its impossible to police.

Should have it so that managers and clubs can talk anytime, but signings can only take place during a transfer window.

That's kind of what it is, except the transfer window is a whole year from November 1, to the next November 1

NRL: Canberra Raiders move to lock up boom rookie Nick Cotric on long-term deal

The Canberra Raiders are moving to lock up young gun Nick Cotric long-term after the winger enjoyed a breakout debut season.

"He's exceeded expectations no doubt, particularly with the physicality of the game at such a young age," Furner said. "He's handled the physicality really well and he's very mature for his age. He's been lucky with injury and been able to stay there for the whole 23-odd games."

I'm actually a bit conflicted about making it a long term deal. If you sign him for 4 years and everything goes well, he will be about at his absolute peak when he comes off contract and it will be an even more brutal battle to keep him. 2 years you aren't risking the same investment and he would not be as costly to extend long term when his contract finishes.

The risk there is if in 2 years time he's really good and doesn't like the direction of the club, we'll risk losing him

But I do get what you're saying and it's a fair point
