Re: 2018 Canberra Raiders memberships
The ACT government has to pay $300K more for the lease and have decided to pass that cost onto consumers rather than local tax payers.
As a tax payer I am not going to complain. As a Raiders fan, I will get there 45 minutes early.
It's a good opportunity for the Raiders to work with sponsors and improve the pre-match entertainment and promotions.

There’s no reason for Canberra to be as badly planned as the State capitals, which grew up around donkey tracks. We should expect parking at a stadium.Northern Raider wrote:Being able to park at a stadium is a very rare privilege these days. Raiders fans should enjoy it while it lasts.

Wouldn't it be great if pre-match entertainment improved or better still bring the games closer together. It's not fun sitting at a half empty stadium with restless kids and nothing to watchGreen eyed Mick wrote:The ACT government has to pay $300K more for the lease and have decided to pass that cost onto consumers rather than local tax payers.

Re: 2018 Canberra Raiders memberships
I don’t mind the rise simply from a efficiency standpoint
$7 meant dealing with notes and coins, it always holds the cue up
I’ll happily pay $10 if it means I can hand over one note and everyone else can do the same and keep things moving
Also $7 for parking at a stadium was a lovely privilege we had, but it was never going to last. $10-15 is the going rate, and we had it good whilst it lasted

Re: 2018 Canberra Raiders memberships
$7 is probably appropriate for dirt parking + still needing a bit of a walk to get there, but it’s only $3, not worth getting too riled up about

Re: 2018 Canberra Raiders memberships
Free parking for the majority of parks around Manuka Oval for GWS fans. Andrew Barr even lifted the 2 hour parking limit during game day so they don’t get fined.
At least we know where his priorities are at (support AFL). He is very very happy to Give GWS $26 million and free parking for their supporters in a popular and busy area of Canberra.
End result means that they Give the Raiders and Brumbies much less taxpayers money than an out of town team and also hit their fans far harder for parking.
I’m ok for the $10 parking at Bruce, but anyone parking over the time limit at Manuka in a 2hr Park should have to display an online paid and printed ticket for the privilege (or recoup funds through the ticket price).

There is mention of getting there 45 minutes early and also improving game day. With the NYC no longer are there any other games? Will Mounties play before NRL?

They will, the fixture hasnt been confirmed which games they'll play at GIO
There's a couple for CRC games that will be the lead in as well

Re: 2018 Canberra Raiders memberships
It’s not clear though, that there won’t be games with just one fixture. I hope there is at least some form of warm up game at each match, either Mounties’ two grades, Canberra Raiders Cup, or Katrina Fanning Shield.

Yep. The lesson here is if you are going to throw money at politicians, make sure they can win.BJ wrote:Especially around political donations and junkets.Green eyed Mick wrote:The Raiders could learn a great deal about stakeholder engagement from the people at the GWS and AFL.BJ wrote:Free parking for the majority of parks around Manuka Oval for GWS fans. Re: 2018 Canberra Raiders memberships
As long as they don't start charging money to park in the residential area around Fern Hill Park I'm fine with the price increase.
Get in early, park in Bruce, enjoy the 5 minute extra walk, have fun watching the U20's, use the $10 you saved on something more useful and enjoy watching those who paid for parking take an extra 20 minutes to get out of the carpark while you walk to your car and drive straight out.

Re: 2018 Canberra Raiders memberships
The relaxation of the parking restrictions around Manuka in all practicality applies to cricket games not GWS games. GWS games are nearly always played when the parking restrictions don’t apply anyway.BJ wrote:Free parking for the majority of parks around Manuka Oval for GWS fans. Re: 2018 Canberra Raiders memberships
I also think you will find the cheaper parking applies for the 45 mins FROM gate opening not 45 mins before the game. So if we had a triple header of Mounties 20s and NSW Cup say starting at 10.30 with a 3pm first grade kickoff, gates would open at 10.15 so the cheaper parking applies to 11am not 2.15pm.

Re: 2018 Canberra Raiders memberships
Having spent Christmas in Toronto, my family and I attended 1 Raptors game and 2 Leafs games.
They were great events at a great venue with great fan engagement. Great...
2 things I think the Raiders should look at doing (I'm aware of the differences in budget and number of games):
- Both the Leafs and Raptors provide a "Fan Experience" desk at the venue where you can talk to staff about any issues you may be having. You can also pre-register to notify staff if you will be attending for a special event (as Leafs tix are so expensive any game is a "special event"). I did this for my kids as it was their first Leafs game. During the 1st intermission a Leafs staff member visited our seats and presented the kids with special 1st game certificates with their names, and a souvenir bag with a Leafs pencil case, etc.. The kids were pretty chuffed about it. I hadn't done the same thing for the Raptors game but I went to the Fan Experience desk and was able to get them 1st game certificates as well.
- A jersey presentation (from a former player) to a current or former member of the military at half time. This may seem a bit American but having witnessed a bunch of these now, both in person and on NHL.TV, I can only tell you that each one has been a memorable and emotional moment. It's not about flag-waving, it's about showing appreciation for the sacrifice, and you can tell it means a lot to those who are recipients. Given our proximity to Duntroon you would think that this could be relatively easy to do.

I don’t like the second suggestion. The only reason the military has such a big presence at American sporting games is to try and create a sense of patriotism amongst idiots, we don’t need that here
