Campese to run for Queanbeyan-Palerang Council

Post by greeneyed »

Former Raiders captain Terry Campese will contest the Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council election

On September 9 the former Raiders captain will contest the Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council election as part of former councillor Kenrick Winchester’s ticket.

“Queanbeyan is my home; it is part of who I am,” Mr Campese said. “I was born here, grew up here, went to school here and got married here. I am very keen to give back to the community that helped me become who I am today.”

Great to see so many prominent rugby league identities putting their hand up for representation on the Council... and it looks like a very good agenda for promoting sport etc. I'm not a resident of the area, but I hope rugby league gets lots of good voices in local government in the district. Good luck to them all.

I don't think it's likely Seiffert Oval can be brought up to NRL standard, given the complete lack of media and corporate facilities... and for members and the public. It would need a complete demolition of the grandstand and the creation of a brand new modern facility and I can't see that happening... when there's a much better stadium already 20 minutes away.

It'd be good to upgrade the ground, however, and significant further investment is needed to make it a good community sports facility.

If his political form is anything like his footy form in the last couple years of his nrl career, he won't be running for the palerang council.

Haha nah good luck campo!

Son, we live in a world that has forums, and those forums have to be guarded by Mods. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Nickman? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lucy, and you curse GE. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that GE’s moderation, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, keeps threads on track and under the appropriately sized, highlighted green headings.
You want moderation because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that forum -- you need me on that forum. We use words like "stay on topic," "use the appropriate forum," "please delete." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very moderation that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you get a green handle and edit a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think about moderation.

I've been arguing with Manbush in the Politics thread.

I think drinking heavily at breakfast is a fairly rational response.

Upgrading Sieffert for one or two games a year would be a massive waste of money better spent on something else. New indoor basketball and netball courts is a great idea. Those basketball courts at the Y were old and shabby when I was a kid

Tony Wood, aka Victor the Viking, is running for council in Queanbeyan

Tony Wood, or Victor the Viking to most, would like to be judged for what's under the costume when he stands for the September 9 Queanbeyan-Palerang election.

"I would like the people to vote for me as Tony Wood not as Victor the Viking," Mr Wood said. "I'd want people to vote for my ideas and what I represent.

Queanbeyan-Palerang council 2017 election night results

The Queanbeyan-Palerang election count will continue on Sunday with former mayor Tim Overall leading the tally. Running as an independent, Kenrick Winchester, also a former Queanbeyan councillor, said he was hoping preferences would flow his way in the coming days to have the number two on his ticket, Kevin Butt, elected as well as himself.
