NRL.com Round 13 team of the week

5. Jordan Rapana

You can't help but wonder what the score might have been had Jordan Rapana not been in the Raiders line-up. Sent Blake Austin away with a break from his own side of halfway to get the Raiders on the board, took advantage of a clever piece of play from Joey Leilua to score early in the second half and then split the Sea Eagles defence with an 80-minute solo effort to get his team back within two points. Had 133 run metres from dummy-half alone in his total of 244m with seven tackle busts.

The Canberra Raiders, pre-season premiership heavyweights, are currently sitting ninth on the ladder with a 6-7 record. Among the seven losses, an 84-minute, 20-16 epic to North Queensland, the two extra-time bouts conceded to Manly in the space of six games and a 13-12 thriller to Brisbane as well.

But with just six wins in their past 23 games where there was a converted try or less in it, Stuart’s blood pressure is still getting a serious work out.

I think the most disappointing and certainly frustrating aspect of our close losses is we are beating ourselves rather than being undone by teams. Rapana dropping the kick off v Brisbane, Croker bombing the try v Manly at home, Paulos drop yesterday. Three wins where we basically handed the game over on the back of really simple mistakes. We seemed to overcome it last year and it felt like 2015 was a distant bad dream but low and behold its back again.
It's time Ricky admits to himself that there is a problem with close games.

There's also a problem with the grind. **** the grind. Just play football. The grind doesn't seem to suit these players.

I was in Sydney to watch that.

That first half was abysmal, not much happening defensively. Second half was vastly improved, but when the ball was dropped in golden point it pretty much summed up the game.

Exciting game because it was so close at the end, but not leaking points like a sieve in the first half is infinitely preferable. What really frustrates me is that I know there's better, because we've all seen it last year with pretty much the same team, and we're not really getting close to that.

I don't think its got the attention it deserves in recent weeks, but I thought it was nice to see the return of relentless bombs when we wind up just past halfway. Missed that tactic.

Taufua has run for 1913 metres after 13 rounds , the seventh most in the competition and has crossed for eight tries, the sixth-most in the league.

Gee, we move them on quick after they get hurt don't we?

Fingers crossed that next we'll see the return of the 4th tackle inside ball to a forward for a simple hit up

Anyone else think all these knee injuries from Sunday were due to how bad brookvale oval is? 3 games was too munch on it, there was a team of men filling the holes up after every half of football

And I am glad lui has a home at manly now , after Sunday I was worried he wouldn't get a new contract ;)

NRL.com Power Rankings: Round 14

10. Raiders (Last week: 9)

The Green Machine once again holds the best attacking record in the NRL but it's not getting them across the line every week, with a poor first half costing them dearly in the long run. The Raiders did very well to wipe out a 14-point half-time deficit and send the game into golden point, but it wasn't quite enough and they've now lost four of their last six. This week's clash with Penrith could be a tryfest.
