If you aren't Brisbane then the game is structured around teams having 2 or 3 good seasons before being forced back to the pack due to cap constraints. It just sucks for us that we tend to go back to the pack for 10-15 seasons

That was a Furner special of a signing
Re: Fensom set to join Cowboys, forced out by cap says Stuar
Those were good times. The forum collectively losing it's mind about signing a guy like him to Mounties where short of a Chapecoense FC level disaster, he'd never play a single minute of football for our top team

Ricky Stuart confirms Shaun Fensom and Edrick Lee to leave Canberra Raiders
Canberra Raiders coach Ricky Stuart says salary cap pressure has forced dual Mal Meninga Medallist Shaun Fensom and winger Edrick Lee to leave the Green Machine.
The pair were both off contract at the end of 2017 and have been at the Raiders their whole careers having come to the club as teenagers.

Jesus Christ Michael Bani was one of the worst wingers I've ever seen in the NRL. Up there with Lipina Kaufusi, Jackson Kaufusi and Makasini Richter (wondering if anyone else is rugby league nerdy enough to get that)DJ89 wrote:It was Ben Farrar for Michael Bani.-TW- wrote:The Cowboys and Manly swapped a few years ago, pretty sure one of the Wrights was involved

well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.

Makasini was alright, the other two were ****!

Unfortunate that it comes down to poor cap management in the past for these two to be shown the door

Am I the only one slamming my head against the desk every time I read somebody suggesting that releasing Fensom and Lee is bad cap management?

Fensom yes. Lee I'm not sure, or at least I'm not sure about Lee x 2.Raiders_Pat wrote:Am I the only one slamming my head against the desk every time I read somebody suggesting that releasing Fensom and Lee is bad cap management?

i think it's good cap management but not great for depth...simo wrote:nope. But get used to itRaiders_Pat wrote:Am I the only one slamming my head against the desk every time I read somebody suggesting that releasing Fensom and Lee is bad cap management?

Re: Fensom set to join Cowboys, forced out by cap says Stuar
If you end up without enough depth isn't that bad cap management?
Re: Fensom set to join Cowboys, forced out by cap says Stuar
I think we are taking the late 2000s Manly approach of trying to get the best eleven or twelve we can afford and fill the remaining spots with the best of what's left.edwahu wrote:If you end up without enough depth isn't that bad cap management?
Manly were winning premierships with the worst second tier and junior teams in their respective competitions. In the meantime the raiders had strong players through all lower grades and junior competitions and won diddly at nrl level.
Re: Fensom set to join Cowboys, forced out by cap says Stuar
Wouldn't that depend on the quality of player you have in your starting 13?edwahu wrote:If you end up without enough depth isn't that bad cap management?
Re: Fensom set to join Cowboys, forced out by cap says Stuar
I guess there is a balance. You need to be able to absorb injuries. If you expect to be able to get through a year with 20 first graders I think you are taking a big risk. At the same time having 35 average players is even dumber.Ginga wrote:Wouldn't that depend on the quality of player you have in your starting 13?edwahu wrote:If you end up without enough depth isn't that bad cap management?

No, thats bad roster managment but as long as you are under the cap, or at least can show your under the cap (ahem Broncos) then your golden on cap management.edwahu wrote:If you end up without enough depth isn't that bad cap management?

Latest development I have made up is Fenton to Leeds on a 12 month player swap for Seg to cover for Baptist.

What happened to Seg at the sharks?
Re: Fensom set to join Cowboys, forced out by cap says Stuar
Leeds won't release him without a 250,000 pounds transfer fee. And they'll take him to court if necessary. Good on them, I say.

Re: Fensom set to join Cowboys, forced out by cap says Stuar
We've got enough depth - we've got Naden and Aiono as depth on the wing. I made a point in the depth thread that looking back on the past decade of premiership winning teams, no team bar Dragons in 2010 had two top of the range wingers in their line up in terms of price. It's usually one premium winger and another on minimal coin, usually somebody on the rise or something. We chose Rapana as our premium winger when he signed his new contract, which no doubt would have been a significant upgrade. Unfortunately, that meant Lee had to get the tap on the shoulder, probably late last year. His deal would have been in the works for a while... it would've been unfair for us to say "actually no, we want to keep him" all of a sudden, just because one of our centres got injured. If Croker wasn't injured, it would be Cotric playing outside of Croker, and as simo said, nobody would've batted an eyelid.El_Capitano wrote:i think it's good cap management but not great for depth...simo wrote:nope. Sad to see you go Fenno. You were a shining light in dark times. Will always be up there as one of my favorite Raiders. You played with heart and represented the working class man. No social media crap, never in strife and went about your business. Good luck with your move.

Cowboys sign Shaun Fensom effective immediately
The former Canberra Raiders stalwart, 28, has agreed to a two-year deal, and is expected to begin training on Monday.

I reckon he'll forge a decent first grade career there. They're craving some middle third experience.

Raiders have confirmed the release

I agree! I wish there was a send off or a way to show him our appreciation for his performances and pride for our club during some tough times.BrisbaneRaider wrote:Will go down as a legend of the club in my eyes, best of luck.

Yeah that would be good. Most players have some platform of social media so you can at least give your well wishes but he is old school.Green_Hammock wrote:I agree! Agree with this 110%. Fensom is one of my all time favourite Raiders.BrisbaneRaider wrote:Will go down as a legend of the club in my eyes, best of luck.
I'm not sure which is worse, seeing him languish in Mounties or playing for a different club. My only consolation is that the Cowboys are my #2 team, so I'm happy that's it them he's gong to. I sincerely hope he kills it up there.

How bizarre. Possibly round 1 v Fensom and round 2 v Lee
