Junior Paulo suspended for Round 1

Post by greeneyed »

Statement regarding Junior Paulo

The Canberra Raiders and NRL integrity unit have worked together to determine a sufficient outcome for Junior Paulo, for an off-field incident in 2016.

The Raiders have been working with the NRL integrity unit closely following Paulo’s conviction for common assault and reckless driving last year, on a suitable outcome for Paulo to protect the games integrity.

The following conditions have been implemented by the Raiders and NRL integrity unit:

1. Junior Paulo is suspended from playing round 1 of the 2017 NRL Competition;

2. Junior Paulo was suspended from representing the Raiders at the Auckland 9’s competition;

3. Junior Paulo has been made unavailable for the ‘World All Stars’; and

4. Club sanctioned Community Service

Raiders CEO Don Furner said the Raiders had a history of making the tough decisions on off-field player behaviour and had worked with the NRL integrity unit to determine a reasonable outcome for Junior’s indiscretion.

“The Raiders believe in upholding the integrity of the game and we’ve worked closely with the NRL to determine this outcome for Junior,” Furner said. “The NRL has allowed Junior the opportunity to play in the NRL trial match against the Knights on February 18 to preserve his match fitness ahead of the season, but we agreed he should miss one NRL match.”

The Raiders will be making no further comment on the issue.

OK then. Can we suspend for the Knights instead of the Cowboys though?

So... umm
Just the one game suspension then?

What a heist we pulled off to get two events we have absolutely ZERO **** interest in him playing in, being included in the ban haha

I wonder what time of the year this happened?

Haha yeah I laughed at points 2 and 3 as well, I bet he'll be spewing when
Austin, Sezer and Bateman come back from NZ and tell him all the stories about
all their in game highlights.

Still more of a punishment than what Roberts has received in his last few offenses put together though.

Considering this all occurred before he came to us and we have worked hard with junior to help him off the field , with a clean record since

I am actually dissapointed in 1 game

So how many will they make Taylor sit out

Roberts?? And at the end of the day the court case ended yonks ago

Wheels can't turn that slowly

And what we sign Taylor and he then gets suspended for drug charges from years back ?

Look I would have been happy if it was done in a timely manner and was fair

Roberts , semi, Edwards , do you need me to go on?

What will happen with papa now? Day before the grand final they stabs him down for the dui?

Fans would except all this IF it was consistent

Is my memory misleading me or didn't this incident happen while he was at Parramatta? If that is so, why are WE the ones being punished for it?

Canberra Raiders prop Junior Paulo suspended from round one of the NRL season, following road rage incident while at Eels

Canberra Raiders front rower Junior Paulo has been rubbed out of the opening round of the 2017 NRL season for an off-field incident that occurred last year. The club worked alongside the NRL integrity unit following Paulo's conviction for common assault and reckless driving in 2016.

Of course he should be punished, but why are WE the club being punished when he wasn't even one of our players at the time?

At the end of the day we are not sooking about the punishment per say

We just want fairness and consistency, simple really :)

Because WE signed him, and WE knew some form of punishment was coming down the pike, WE handed him a fat contract and WE gain a competitive advantage out of the fact he had off the field issues, and he is now representing US.

Hahah. I mean you guys can't actually be **** serious can you? It's one game for consorting with bikies and assaulting a man.

Honestly.

I hope Ricky suspended Dave Taylor from the Nines and All Stars too. I'd support that exclusion from the Nines team!

Pretty much, need to know which battles to pick and which ones to let go, this definitely fits the let go category.

If Papalii was going to get suspended the NRL would've done something (like at least make a statement) by now

This is a good result for us. If the NRL is really serious about the integrity of the game, the punishment should probably be harsher, but then when you consider his penalty from the court was only a $300 fine plus driving disqualification, it feels pretty hard to argue for anything more severe. Personally, I think the NRL needs to sit down and come up with some guidelines around penalties for various types of off-field indiscretions. They happen frequently enough that it wouldn't be wasted effort, and it would mean the decision-making around this would at least be somewhat more transparent than it is now.

Good point , that's the thing if the NRL was consistent and fans , not just raiders fans but all fans didn't feel like some players /clubs marched to a different beat no-one would be "sooking"

I hope the nrl continues down this road of holding players accountable for their actions regardless of what club they are at. We can bitch about roberts at the broncs all we want but in the end he avoided a police charge so we cant continue to moan about it

You're right, it's a joke. He should have been released back to Parra on a punishment contract, take the one match ban, then be handed back to us squeaky clean.
