World Club Challenge qualification
With the NRL choosing the minor premiers and the two grand finalists every year to send to the WCC does that qualify us to go to England next pre season since we'd be the next picked down the line?
Anyone know anything about this?

That's cool. Anyone gonna be around there over that period? Just after the holiday season I might swing by the KCOM Stadium to watch the game.

It will mean a low key trial period for the boys.
We only played 1 trial this year (?)

In Ricky We Trust
Re: World Club Challenge qualification
Wouldn't surprise me in the least if either of these things happened:
a) The ESL and NRL decide to invite the Broncos or Cowboys or Dragons or anyone else but the Raiders to participate.
b) Ricky Stuart says, thanks, but no thanks.
I don't think it helps the season preparations much, too much travel. On the upside, it is more "big game" experience.

Re: World Club Challenge qualification
If Ricky is about building that "big game" experience and team building and travelling well as a team and all that jazz he could well be all for the English trip

I hope the boys travel to England. We've heard all year how tight they are and this will only strengthen that bond.

That'd be pretty sweet for Hodgo to go back home and play Hull F.C. in front of his family.
Re: World Club Challenge qualification
Would be cooler if it was against his old club featuring Campo

Re: World Club Challenge qualification
its probably in another thread somewhere but I see Hull KR got relegated from the SL on the weekend. In devastating fashion too. 2 tries in the last 3 minutes and then a 50m field goal in golden point.

Yeah what a thrilling game that was. But yeah GE I just meant KR though

Thanks MrMilk. That was amazing to watch and an amazing field goal.
Re: World Club Challenge qualification
Quite the finish.
I can't believe the coverage doesn't have a game clock though. It would've killed me watching at home.

Yeah that is annoying. I think the sky sports coverage had the game clock though. BBC didn't

Re: World Club Challenge qualification
A Google search revealed a few articles stating the make up of the world club challenge was still being debated. There was talk of leaving it as three teams, taking it to four or going down to two. There was also some talk of games being played in Australia.
It is a packed schedule next year with Auckland Nines starting 4 Feb and the World Cup final being 2 Dec.

Re: World Club Challenge qualification
If we are picked I hope we decline. As far as an NRL season goes it's a rubbish game against a side not much better than the NSW cup winners that hampers preparation and offers you nothing but a junket and some injuries.
I know the players would definitely disagree though, and if I was a player I'd be all for it.

Re: World Club Challenge qualification
It would appear that Melbourne are considering not going to the WCC.

If travelling/accommodation costs are paid I can see this as a positive for the Raiders players ... time to bond and prepare for season 2017.

I dont see why they wouldn't, even if they rest/give minimal minutes to key players

Re: World Club Challenge qualification
Apparently the Raiders are not keen to go to the UK.
NRL teams to snub World Club Challenge
The NRL may struggle to find a willing representative for the World Club Challenge runners-up match, with the top eight teams reluctant to take part in the February series.
While NRL premiers Cronulla are locked in to face Super League Champions Wigan in the UK, runners-up Melbourne are reportedly not keen to make the journey around a month from the season start.
Fellow finalists Canberra, North Queensland, Brisbane, Penrith, Canterbury and Gold Coast are also not keen.

Re: World Club Challenge qualification
Crazy to go. Nil benefit in so much travel, to opposite weather, that close to the season.
It was roosters, broncs, cows this year and look how their seasons turned out.
You have to wonder how much super league pays the NRL for this. We (clubs/fans) get sfa out of it

Re: World Club Challenge qualification
There's such a tight schedule this off season. I would say play it earlier but there's already so much stuff on.
They hardly come to Australia to play this! That's not fair!

Re: World Club Challenge qualification
I don't mind the World Club Challenge, but the "extra" games seem to make no sense to me at all. There's just too many pre season events and the Nines should be the priority. If it is about promoting rugby league in the UK, then there are better ways to do it. Mal Meninga was on ABC radio on the weekend saying that he wants a better international program and wants to restore short Kangaroos tours with mid week games, maybe not against club sides but regional rep teams: https://soundcloud.com/abc_grandstand/k ... -october-8bleedgreen99 wrote:Crazy to go. English teams playing in Australia in February would be an absolute towel up IMO.Arnie wrote:There's such a tight schedule this off season. I would say play it earlier but there's already so much stuff on.

With so much league on the schedule these games other than the WCC make no sense. The travel is just too much - unless they want to take RL back to Long Beach

Re: World Club Challenge qualification
Yeah i didn't mind the old format. 1 game of winner vs winner, but this just too much right before our seasons kicks off. Kangaroos playing regional rep teams is a good idea, we take a bigger squad and players are back in time for the next seasongreeneyed wrote:I don't mind the World Club Challenge, but the "extra" games seem to make no sense to me at all. I've had a think about this, I'd rather send a stronger 9s squad than bother with this
