Sammy is probably the best backup half in the NRL. Would love him to stay.
However, I cant see him leading a team. Needs a dominant half beside him. He would probably kill it next to Cronk or JT

Green did just leave Melbourne, could very well end up alongside CronkMatt wrote:Sammy is probably the best backup half in the NRL. Would love him to stay.

Would love to see Sammy get a gig at Melbourne if they wanted him. Not as good as Green but wouldn't let them down.

He's not a starting half but he's excellent back up. In saying that he might score a starting role at some NRL clubs, given the lack of good quality half backs going around.
I think he has shown more ability than Sezer ever has in green.

The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

Re: Canberra Raiders offer halfback Sam Williams a new deal
Exactly right Dubs. He will slot in nicely on the right hand side against the Storm should the Austin shoulder scans rule him out. I think people forget that he played well in finals football in 2012 when his halves partner was Josh McCrone. He is a more mature player now and I really hope we can negotiate a contract which will mean he stays in Green.dubby wrote:We'll need him next week

Re: Canberra Raiders offer halfback Sam Williams a new deal
might even get lucky and get a package deal for Williams, fensom and Vaughan out of here
Re: Canberra Raiders offer halfback Sam Williams a new deal
We'll regret it if we let Paul Vaughan walk out, i promise you that.
Re: Canberra Raiders offer halfback Sam Williams a new deal
Eh. In this day and age, with this salary cap, and the level of player movement, almost anyone is expendable. I'd argue the only ones that aren't are Austin, Hodgson, Papalii and Croker (for his goalkicking and club identity factor).
No team can hoard players; you must be prepared to part with almost anyone of them. The clubs that fully realise this by putting this into practice and continually aiming to evolve are the ones that stay ahead in the longer term, IMO.

Vaughan is quite clearly on the outer...I thought we would regret it a few weeks ago but now I'm not so sure. Would hate to see the big fella go but who knows what's going on?
I think Ricky realises we don't need 3 big money props and it's Paulo, Boyd > Vaughan...We all know what happens when you invest too heavily in the front row.
But I'm just clutching at straws and have no idea...Hope I'm wrong and it's just a form thing

Jesus Christ. That fella hasn't posted for 4 months (the best 16 weeks of footy we've played this century) and rolls in calling out Paul Vaughan and Sam Williams.
May as well have called me by loudspeaker because it's bloody codswallop

Re: Canberra Raiders offer halfback Sam Williams a new deal
Was a good run..
Re: Canberra Raiders offer halfback Sam Williams a new deal
Not sure if serious. Sam Williams has played 5 matches for the Raiders this year. The record is 2 wins, 2 losses and a draw. Of the losses, one was the 40-16 loss to the Sharks when the whole side was schooled. The other was the loss to the Titans where we led 18-6 at half time and were run over - partly due to the Titans completing 18 of 19 second half sets - but mostly due to 16 missed tackles in the second half alone. Four to Sia and three to Brenko. EW (playing 5/8) had 3 second half errors in that match to hand possession to the opposition. But sure it was all the half backs fault.exrefhollywood wrote:he played earlier this season and was terrible, no kicking game and no direction....goodbye and don't come back
Re: Canberra Raiders offer halfback Sam Williams a new deal
The simple truth is if Williams leaves and with L Croker being injured and likely to miss the first half of 2017, we will need to recruit another back up.
We won't find a better back up. If Sam is willing to stay and be on back up half money, we would be crazy not to keep him.

Sam Williams offered a one year deal with the Raiders
NRL: Sam Williams to delay contract decision to focus on Canberra Raiders finals charge
Sam Williams is confident he can add a new dimension to the most destructive combination in the NRL when he joins forces with Jordan Rapana and Joey Leilua for a charge to the NRL finals.
But the recalled haldback will delay a decision on his next contract to focus on the Canberra Raiders' finals campaign, vowing to do whatever it takes to boost the team's chances of chasing a premiership.

Well by holding off he can try and get a better contract somewhere if he finds good form.

He doesn't want to leave, and I can tell you right now if we had a Canberra Raiders reserves team he would stay.

Re: Sam Williams offered a one year deal with the Raiders
It makes sense to hold this off. He's got 2-3 games (incl yesterday) to show that his early season woes where not who he is as an NRL half.
It hasnt started well at all, i barely noticed him at all yesterday except when he was getting a bath by Tom Turbo, but he's probably got 2 more games to show the NRL he deserves another shot as a FG halfback
If he plays well in the next 2 games, i expect some club will throw him a bone and give him a chance, if he continues in the same vein as Sunday, i expect he'll come to terms with the fact he's nothing more than a good back up half and he'll stick around at the raiders in that role and be fantastic in that role

Re: Sam Williams offered a one year deal with the Raiders
According to NRL stats, he missed seven tackles on Saturday, five on NRL.com. I really like him, he's such a nice guy, but he'll have to fix that up very fast if the strategy is to attract interest from other clubs. I don't think its the strategy at all, actually. I genuinely think he wants to do the very best he can for Canberra, and hopefully maximise his deal here. I think he loves the club, wants to be here.

The tackles he made where he was carried over the try line are not counted as misses though.greeneyed wrote:According to NRL stats, he missed seven tackles on Saturday, five on NRL.com. Lachlan Croker too injury prone IMO to put all our eggs in that basket.
