Do we have enough cap space to make a play for Jarryd Hayne
While we all prepare ourselves for two weeks straight of Hayne hysteria news stories, in the 24 hours since his retirement I have seen us linked to him(amongst another 10 clubs).
But with our spending spree of Austin, Sezer, tapine, Paulo and others do we really have enough space to make a solid play for him? Considering he will be offered million dollar deals from other clubs

Re: Do we have enough cap space to make a play for Jarryd Ha
We'd have to shed some players IMO
But if we found new clubs for say Wighton, Fensom and FPN
And you could come up with plenty of other names, those are just the 3 that make sense to me if it meant Hayne
Replacing them with Hayne and 2 min wage rookies/vets, we could make make a pretty competitive offer to him
That said, it's pointless speculating, he'll be at the Eels if they can make it work inside the cap (and they won't be able to be shady about it since the NRL will be on their ****) or the roosters who had money set aside for SBW, and that's unlikely to occur now

There not brisbane
Do we have enough cap space to make a play for Jarryd Hayne
They'll move and heaven and earth to try and make it happen. But I agree they probably can't make it happen without decimating their team

They were 570K over the cap weren't they? in 2017 they will have Watmoughs 750k completely off the cap(not just the 450k they cleared this year), Peats 400k and Paulo's 300K(?), now they are Parramatta so they probably have some back ended deals increasing next year but they also have Gordon on a 1 year deal who won't be signed if they get Hayne, I'd say they would only need to move on 1 or 2 more players max to make a decent play at him,Pigman wrote:They'll move and heaven and earth to try and make it happen. I'm sure that Brisbane will be able to free up enough space by releasing Waddell

They also have Norman off contract and he is after big money and they take Jennings entire contract on.kiwi raider wrote:They were 570K over the cap weren't they? in 2017 they will have Watmoughs 750k completely off the cap(not just the 450k they cleared this year), Peats 400k and Paulo's 300K(?), now they are Parramatta so they probably have some back ended deals increasing next year but they also have Gordon on a 1 year deal who won't be signed if they get Hayne, I'd say they would only need to move on 1 or 2 more players max to make a decent play at him,Pigman wrote:They'll move and heaven and earth to try and make it happen. Calling EDIT? That's unprecedented...
Anyway. on topic - I'm sure the NRL will open it's 'marquee player war chest' to help a big Sydney club get Hayne back. We are no chance, don't even think about it, it will only serve to upset you.

"Look sorry if that came across wrong, I was just referring to the jokes we were making about all the desperate guys who chase you. Hope to catch up some time, but if not best of luck with everything."

I would doubt we have the space and I would highly doubt he would want to come here.

Re: Do we have enough cap space to make a play for Jarryd Ha
I think every league and union club in Australia, New Zealand, Europe and Japan would be mad not to express interest in Hayne.
He might not be interested in coming here but if you dont ask you dont get.

Hayne has denied the Roosters involvement til he's blue in the face, but my bet would be he ends up there.

In fact, I've always thought the whole NFL thing was just an elaborate charade to get him to the roosters.

He'll end up with the roosters.

The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

Yep - Hayne to Roosters with a couple of nice TPA's from City Ford and Channel 9.

It is the worst kept secret that the roosters have been holding out for him, however I would love to see another struggling club like the Titans or Newcastle bump his asking price so it makes the roosters sweat

Re: Do we have enough cap space to make a play for Jarryd Ha
All the talk of cap space is irrelevant in my opinion. If he comes back to the NRL it won't be to the team with the most cap space it will be to the team who can drum up the most TPA's.

The war chest should just be a signing on bonus for rugby league. You sign on to pay rugby league, we give you some money. Now go negotiate a contract with a club for additional payments.

No, the war chest should be abandoned. All clubs should be under the cap. Who cares if this glory seeker plays NRL? The sport doesn't need him. We don't need blokes who put themselves before the sport. Indeed Australians don't like sports people who do this.Dr Zaius wrote:The war chest should just be a signing on bonus for rugby league. Parramatta certainly shouldn't be allowed to sign him. Just watching NRL 360 and they were saying the Eels kept a spreadsheet titled payments "not disclosed". It was done over a few years and involved $3m in undisclosed payments. I'm incensed by what the Eels have done and how they've been whacked with a lettuce leaf by the NRL.

- The above opinion regarding abandoning the warchest.
