Who's your favourite player from the '90s?
Well we all seem to love Mal Meninga from the late 80s, but with all the stars of the 90s coming along is he our favourite now?
The 90s were the era I found footy, lovely looking men in green and my love affair began!
They had that "country " feel to them which I loved and just seemed so much better then the city boys.
Wonder how many of these guys are still involved in the club and how many have come "home" with Sticky?
I will be kinder this time, you can pick 3
It was interesting to see the directors all made the team photo in 95

I'll go with players who, no matter what, stayed with the Raiders.
Mal, I said it all in the 80's thread but he was magnificent in the 90s as well.
Loz, that solo try in the '94 Grand Final still gives me goose bumps.
Croker, he busted everything for the Raiders. Not the biggest man on the park, but backline or backrow he was quality everywhere he played.

I remember the last game Laurie played at the then known Bruce stadium
It rained all day and as he did his lap of honour a rainbow came out
Pretty special

From what I've seen from highlights and old games it would be Mullins, so elusive

I thought picking one from the 80s was hard.
This is a 'whos who' not only of thd Raiders, but also is League royalty.
I went Wiki though. Had speed in his youth. More strength and power as he got older. Versatility and durability over a great career. Could ALWAYS hit like a bus.

Ricky Stuart closely followed by Meninga and Daley..
Re: Who's your favourite player from the '90s?
I'm calling shenanigans, what qualifies players for which decade, Clyde, Daley and Stuart weren't named in the 80s yet Mal and Belcher get in both.
Mine are easy, would've been the same if they were named in the 80s, Clyde, Daley and Stuart. Lazo, Walters, Mullins, Furner, Croker and Wiki all deserve honorable mentions.

Loved Mullins it's just a shame his sensational form only lasted a couple of years, was magic to watch during those years though.Lenny Leonard wrote:From what I've seen from highlights and old games it would be Mullins, so elusive

Mullins started out like Mr Sheen washing whites but faded like a Chinese garment after two washes in a full cycle with omomatic..Manbush wrote:Loved Mullins it's just a shame his sensational form only lasted a couple of years, was magic to watch during those years though.Lenny Leonard wrote:From what I've seen from highlights and old games it would be Mullins, so elusive

I voted for Ricky simply because he was the architect.
That list of players is extraordinary and I feel sick I was only able to select one. That's like being asked to pick between your two favourite children. Which in my mum's case would be my sister. I am the Michael Twigg to her Ricky Stuart.

Michael Twigg! You must be truly awful L4N. What on earth did you do to deserve that rating from your mum? Surely you were at least a Mark McLinden or an Ivan Henjak?

Even though he was a complete **** who disappeared up his own ****, in the mid-nineties I used to tune in almost exclusively to see Brett Mullins.

Re: Who's your favourite player from the '90s?
Oh, we can pick three?? My other favourites were Laurie Daley, who had the heart and soul of a champion, and Ricky Stuart, who we simply didn't win without.

That's why it says on the poll, "you may select up to three options".The Nickman wrote:Oh, we can pick three?? My other favourites were Laurie Daley, who had the heart and soul of a champion, and Ricky Stuart, who we simply didn't win without.

Mullins....Clyde....Wiki.
Very, very hard to leave out many others but i was asked for my favorite players not who were the best.
Mullins was brilliant to watch in his prime.
Clyde was and still is my all-time favorite player.
Wiki was a beast.

It's a tangled web of disappointment I weave.
Re: Who's your favourite player from the '90s?
Just wondering why you said that about Mullins?
I met him about a year ago, granted long after his career finished but he seemed a nice guy and was happy to have a chat, certainly didnt seem arrogant or up himself mate

Re: Who's your favourite player from the '90s?
I met Mullins in the 90s, and he was an arrogant twat.
The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

Re: Who's your favourite player from the '90s?
I met Mullins in the 90s and he was a footballer. Yup. He smoked. He swore. He played footy.
Personalities weren't such a big deal back then. These day's he'd probably be a twat. Don't blush baby.

Re: Who's your favourite player from the '90s?
He also liked a JDs.
Re: Who's your favourite player from the '90s?
Sean Hoppe used to bring the crowd to their feet.
Re: Who's your favourite player from the '90s?
Brett Mullins for me, pretty sure some tries he scored in a comeback are the reason I am a Raiders / rugby league fan.
Whether that is a good thing, I do not know anymore.

excluding the obvious Daley, Stuart, Clyde etc....
as a young fan, i tuned into to watch Mullins, Negas and Nadruku play. the 1994 backline was one of the best in League!
