The specially designed Golden Jerseys which were worn by the Canberra Raiders for the launch of Hauwei’s Ascend G6 smartphone earlier this year have raised $12,296 for cancer research. The limited golden edition was auctioned off to fans with the proceeds going towards Huawei’s charity partner, the Tour de Cure.

At the annual Meninga Medal Gala Event held last night at the AIS Arena in Canberra, Huawei’s Chairman John Lord presented the golden cheque to Tour de Cure Co-Founder and Director of Development Geoff Coombes.

Geoff Coombes: “Tour de Cure is extremely grateful for the support from Huawei and the Canberra Raiders to help us raise vital funds and awareness to help cure cancer. The Golden Jersey is a wonderful initiative and the support from the Raiders fans who bid on these one off jerseys is fantastic.”

Raiders CEO Don Furner said the Raiders were thrilled to be able to assist Huawei in raising the funds and said they look forward to an even better partnership in 2015.

“The Ascend G6 Golden jerseys were a real hit amongst Raiders fans and we saw the results with the amount of money raised through the auction on http://www.allbids.com.au,” Furner said. “We see our partnership with Huawei as more than just a name on a jersey and its initiatives like this which enable us to work together and assist fantastic charities like Tour de Cure.”

“The Raiders are excited about working with Huawei again in 2015 and hopefully we can come up with another initiative like this again next season,” Furner said.
