I understand why but we fought so hard to be able to keep the South Logan thing after NSWRL threatened to kick us out of SG ball and HMS just sort of feels funny

Don Furner interview:
Souths Logan. Had a meeting with the QRL and Souths Logan Magpies told them it is unlikely we'll continue with the relationship. As the present system stands, with no incentives in the salary cap for junior development, we simply can't afford it. If the discount system for juniors considered by the NRL earlier in the year hadn't been knocked on the head, we'd have more likely continued.
Have a meeting next week with the NRL about this. The QRL and Souths Logan don't want us to leave them, but as the system stands, it's unlikely we can support them to the extent we have. We have invested millions over time, but we can't do it under current arrangements.
Josh Mansour. Let him get last night's game out of the road. Quietly confident of an answer in our favour, we'll get back on the phone once our game today is out of the way.
Michaeal Ennis. Understand he wants to stay in Sydney if he can, he's a family man with connections in Sydney. He's looking to sign with another club in Sydney? I believe that's the case. Haven't spoken to Michael since last Thursday.
There are other potential signings. At this time of year, new names come up every day, often then discounted. I will sit down with Ricky Stuart and discuss some of the other options.
Josh McCrone. Being linked to the Melbourne Storm? We're going to talk to him this week. Absolutely, keen to keep him. He wants to be a half, not a hooker...? Correct.

Do the Broncos, Titans put much money into junior development or rely on us to do it?
Would explain why South Logan are nervous

The Broncos do. I doubt the Titans can afford to.

The Broncos are investing big time in the Souths Logan district and trying to take it over. This is no doubt an issue as well.

should not be if you can afford to or not, it should be part of the licence deal that you develop juniors in your area IMO and we may not have the problem we doedwahu wrote:The Broncos do. I doubt the Titans can afford to.

If we pull out of Souths Logan I doubt the Broncos will bother investing so much. They will have no need.

Terry Campese won't be on the program now, his line dropped out and they couldn't get him back.

Son, we live in a world that has forums, and those forums have to be guarded by Mods. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Nickman? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lucy, and you curse GE. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that GE’s moderation, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, keeps threads on track and under the appropriately sized, highlighted green headings.
You want moderation because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that forum -- you need me on that forum. We use words like "stay on topic," "use the appropriate forum," "please delete." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very moderation that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you get a green handle and edit a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think about moderation.
Re: Don Furner on ABC Canberra Grandstand
From memory they also took over Toowoomba once Broncos started ignoring them.greeneyed wrote:The Titans have feeder club arrangments with Burleigh Bears and Ipswich, maybe Tweed.edwahu wrote:The Broncos do. I doubt the Titans can afford to.
I bow down to thee oh great Nickman, the wisest of the wise, your political adroitness is unsurpassed, your sagacity is unmatched, your wisdom shines through on this forum amongst us mere mortals as bright as your scalp under the light of a full moon, never shall I doubt your analytical prowess again. You are my hero, my lord, my savior, may you accept my offerings so you continue to bless us with your genius.

I'm extremely disappointed about the feeder. Such a valuable area. The raiders also invest in some schools as well. It would be a shame if that was also affected.

Re: Don Furner on ABC Canberra Grandstand
Souths Logan and Canberra have been involved with one another for years in some form in another. And it's always been a helpful relationship for both clubs being from Logan and playing my junior footy in Logan 10 years ago we never even heard from the broncos however souths Logan and the Canberra raiders did come and do stuff for us. But now that Logan is finally getting noticed the broncos are showing some interest eg the broncos academy there building near Marsden high which has usually been a raiders area. Personally devod as a queenslander, Canberra and souths Logan fan to see it fail again As souths are really struggling these days there the ultimate under dog

Hopefully its a move to put pressure on the NRL with SL and QRL joining forces
Re: Don Furner on ABC Canberra Grandstand
I hope we don't completely give up on Souths Logan. Undoubtedly the Milf saga has soured DFJ's opinion, but we did get Papa and Edrick from that area and there are a number of other promising players coming through our system (Brenko, Mago) that we wouldn't have had a chance with but for the SL collaboration. Interesting that 'financials' are given as a main reason. I would have thought the risk/reward was good, given that so far, we have developed an International out of that area.

I assume it's trying to push through with our "stop being a dick with juniors or we will stop putting money into it" threat. Hopefully it won't come back to bite us but something has to be done....

Happy to see the end of souths Logan, just leave a couple of scouts there and concentrate on regional nsw.
How good did that kid from Dubbo look for the panthers in the centres, add in Cartwright and they are building a great squad.

So this means we will strengthen our ties with Mounties?
I call shenanigans. Canberra have said for years that they preferred SL over a NSW Cup team because somehow it was cheaper to send players to SL.
If that's true, and its a money thing, it would make more sense to ditch Mounties

We're developing juniors in someone else's backyard. For every Lee and Papalii, who many regional NSW juniors are there out there who might be missing out because we have split our efforts?RedRaider wrote:I hope we don't completely give up on Souths Logan. I'd rather see kids being brought out, placed in the local junior squads, then the Canberra Raiders Cup comp to lift the local standard along with U20s and NSW Cup.
It seems like we're letting the local comp suffer while we prop up a team that gave us Mal Meninga almost thirty years ago. Time this sentimental idea was put out to pasture.

It's also given us the likes of Papalii, Milford (save the Broncos breaking salary cap rules to poach him), Bateman, Mago. Brenko Lee. We need access to players of Pacific Island heritage, because we simply won't compete physically without them. And we're not going to find many of them in NSW Country.yurithe1 wrote:We're developing juniors in someone else's backyard.
