Who should be in the Raiders team for Round 10? Tell us your team here and see how you go in comparison to the official squad when listed on Tuesday. We will include the official line ups in the first post of this thread, once announced. Plus all the previews for the clash with the Panthers.
The Canberra Raiders spent a week telling anyone who would listen that they had learned a lot from their Round 8 thumping at the hands of Manly. So without those lessons Raiders fans would hate to think what the score could have been in the Round 9 shellacking at the hands of the Warriors. Two weeks in a row, the opposition put on more than 50 points. It was only the second time it has happened in Raiders history. It was the worst defeat to the Warriors in Raiders history. The Raiders defence has big, big problems, with other teams having worked out how to get around the compressed defensive line... or go through the middle. After some promising signs in the first month or so of the competition, the Raiders are back to the form of 2013.
Canberra come home to take on the Penrith Panthers in Round 10. Of the 66 matches between the two clubs, the Raiders have won 32, the Panthers 32, with two draws. At Canberra Stadium, Penrith have won just seven matches of the 23 clashes played since it became Canberra's home ground in 1990. In the last 10 matches between the clubs, the Raiders have had four wins. The last meeting produced a 12-6 loss at Penrith, just weeks ago in Round 5, in the middle of a deluge. The current form line for the Raiders is an ugly LLWLL; for the Panthers with a match to play it is a WLWL record.
The Panthers are $1.65 favourites for the match, the Raiders are paying $2.20.

Re: 2014 Rd 10 V Panthers: Teams and Previews
I don't know. You can't sack the whole team but clearly we need some substantial changes. Tupou has to go, he's rubbish. Campo and White have to go. They haven't inspired all year, are on the verge of retirement anyway, and clearly their on field leadership is non-existent. Vaughan is better as a front rower. Wighton isn't ready to be a half. Cornish and Foster have been classy at Mounties and can't be worse than what we have.

13. Fensom
14. Baptiste/Cronin
15. Papalii (needs to get fitter)
16. Shillington
17. Boyd
#EDIT - Not sure who the captain would be. Croker or Fensom would be obvious choices but I think they're both too quiet at this stage. McCrone may be the man for the job. He at least knows how to rip into a fellow teammate, even if he's playing **** himself. Maybe Vaughan as an outsider.
It doesn't matter how many positions you switch around though if the attitude and effort just isn't there like it wasn't in the last 2 matches. But perhaps dumping the captain and VC, flogging the team at training and threatening the overhead projector can go some way towards fixing that.

^ I was writing this up during the three games I watched today.... Certainly no one from the under 20's but our reserve grade sides (both of them) are going well, particularly the Mounties so it's a joke they can't crack first grade after we let in over 100 points in "two" weeks...

Sticky will only make changes based on injury.
And to think we've had the same spine in all of our games this year, I can't think of another team that has done that this year.

Re: 2014 Rd 10 V Panthers: Teams and Previews
Robinson, Hawkins, Croker, Wighton, Allwood, McCrone, Cornish, Shillington, Buttriss, Vaughan, Papalii, Edwards, Fensom
Int: Cronin/Baptiste, Boyd, KOD, a second rower
Dropping Milford because there's not a chance in hell that he will stay and there's no point continually picking him (his form hasn't been that bad). Moving Wighton into the centres out of necessity.

Re: 2014 Rd 10 V Panthers: Teams and Previews
Glad to see you were humoured by my Cornish captaincy suggestion. I wasn't really seriously suggesting it. It's my way of pointing out that we don't have a real captain in our team at the moment.
Maybe we should pick a player solely as a captain, kinda like the Aussies did with George Bailey when he was first selected.

White and Campo as captain and vice captain have to be punted. They have to take responsibility not only for their own rubbish individual performances but also for the **** poor attitude on display from the whole side.

Re: 2014 Rd 10 V Panthers: Teams and Previews
This could either be the smallest crowd at Bruce (GIO) Stadium ever or a return to the grim dark years when our supporters were regularly out-numbered by opposition fans. I have no idea of whether to go and show some solidarity or just watch on TV.
I think it's this week that Milford has to give an answer on whether he's staying or going. I'm tipping he's going and naming a team accordingly. Remember, he's on U20s salary plus maybe a small top-up at the moment.
1. Robinson

15. Shillo
16. Papalii (lucky he didn't swap his salary for an appearance fee during the NZ game. Barely sighted).
17. Cornish
I've had enough of Tilse, despite him being re-signed.
Let Milford tear it up for Souths Logan, they could do with people paying at the gate to boost their club coffers. If he gets injured playing park football, who cares? He's gone.
Tupou - I've just self-edited. We all know he's the worst player in the NRL. If he's getting picked because he's getting above the going rate, then suck it up Princess Ricky and cut your losses.

I don't know how long sticky will keep wighton as 5/8, maguire is not playing walker there anymore because he is either a way off playing the position or whether he realises he's better suited as a centre in the nrl Ricky take note. Campese needs to retire, tupou enough said, and tilse, I cringe every time he gets the ball I have got no idea why we re-signed him and to me mccrone looks better (still average) in the halves, there is NO creativity

Re: 2014 Rd 10 V Panthers: Teams and Previews
This is going to be another tough week to be a Raiders fan!
Its time for change, and the big calls need to be made.
1. Ahearn or RR
2. RR/ Sami/ Hawkins/ Pangai/ Rapana
3. Croker
4. Wighton - its time to admit it was too early
5. Pick a 2nd one from the list above, and in that order
6. Milford - leaving or not, we are nothing without him
7. Cornish
8. Tilse - because he has a contract
9. Butters or Macca
10. Vaughan
11. Kennedy/ Foster/ Nicholls - our reserve grade boys are going too well
12. Edwards
13. Fensom (c)
14. Cronin/ Baptise/ Killer
15. Papalli - needs some form and fitness
16. Shillington
17. Boyd

We are nothing without a one trick pony that runs around in circles confusing himself and teamates matt? Better to start building a team, mate hes now the broncos basket case.
This place is woke.

Re: 2014 Rd 10 V Panthers: Teams and Previews
Terry Campese is no longer the player he used to be; perhaps it is time for Ricky Stuart to consider dropping the five-eighth
RICKY Stuart faces the toughest decision of his career this week — whether to drop revered Canberra captain Terry Campese.
Or perhaps the call isn’t so tough?
Because if Stuart takes a look at Campese’s statistics, he’ll see the Raiders five-eighth produced just one run for all of four metres against the Warriors.
By no means should the Raiders thumping loss to New Zealand, read as Campese’s fault. The inept display from the Green Machine has a lot more to do with just one player.
