Christmas in July at Canberra Stadium this Saturday with the Lady Raiders

This Saturday, the ‘Lady Raiders’ will be celebrating Christmas in July by collecting wrapped presents and canned food at Canberra Stadium to donate to St John’s Care.

St John’s Care operates a range of programs to assist and support people in need in the Canberra region, including emergency relief, crisis support, food, clothing and material assistance, counselling referrals, support groups for bereaved and separated people, marriage education courses and a toy repair workshop.

Unlike large national charities, St John’s Care receives no ACT government support so every donation at Canberra Stadium this Saturday will be extremely beneficial to their respectable cause.

The Lady Raiders will be set up outside the western ticket entry from the time gates open at 12:45pm.

The Lady Raiders are a group assembled by Kellie Furner, wife of Coach David Furner, and compromising of grandmothers, mothers, sisters, daughters, wives and partners of the Canberra Raiders.

Their aim is to enrich the ACT community and have previously won the largest community group award at the Mother’s Day Classic earlier this year where they raised vital funds for breast cancer research.
“We as a group are looking to stick together to try and raise the profile of the mothers, partners, sisters and daughters at the club so that we can better show our passion for the club and the community,” said Kellie Furner.

“We are currently looking at getting involved in more community events and initiatives so that we can continue to show our passion to enhance the community.

“Christmas in July is a terrific way for us to raise money for such a hardworking charity such as St Johns Care.”
