I really think Croker needs a week off..
Re: 2012 Rd 10 V Eels: Teams and Previews
Berrigan at no 9 for sure. That was direction we haven't seen for an age! Croker's defence has him on thin ice with me too. Made a couple of good reads but his bad reads far outweigh them... We can't keep having our pants pulled down on our left hand side.

1. Dugan - nothing to say here
2. Fergs - speed machine, gotta have him gettin around defense wide
3. Croker - copping a lot about defense, has everyone forgot about highest point scorer?
4. wighton - earned a permanent start through aggression
5. Robinson - loved him in the number one but no way he gets it over Dugan, just doesn't have the juice like fergs going wide on sideline, maybe a future center?
6. Mccrone - playing great
7. Williams - I'm still not quite convinced by the young fulla but not much choice with no campo
8. Leahroyd larhs - big tommy, love him from the bench but he's an 8
9. Berrigan - was happy with his impact from hooker against manly
10. Shillo - maybe not captain?
11. Papalli - playing well enough to retain spot
12. Thompson - always strong runs and aggressive defense
13. Fensom - good consistent comeback from bicep injury, happy that he won't get a look for origin
14. Picker - I'd like to see some more game time before I lock him in

Mate, top point scorer doesn't mean anything when you're up there with the top points leaker. He let 6 points in today. He didn't score 6 points. It doesn't work out. Our left hand side is a joke in defence. He can't keep his spot!Raider Bell wrote:1. Dugan - nothing to say here

Re: 2012 Rd 10 V Eels: Teams and Previews
Really is a must win game, or IMO, it is season 2012 over. We are 3/9 and starting to lose touch with the top 8. Against a Parramatta side, who let's face it, have been absolutely diabolical this year, if we cannot win we don't deserve to be playing footy in September.

Quick question seeing as we're looking at next week: have the Raiders ever won a game with Shillo as captain? I'm leaning towards dropping him altogether on his performance today, but I reckon it's the captaincy that's sinking his game.

looney bin time mate
i agree that the captaincy has weighed on him and impacted his game negatively. But you dont drop a player of his ability, you maybe revise your decision on captain but you dont drop him

Re: 2012 Rd 10 V Eels: Teams and Previews
Happy to put my hand up and say i was one of them
i questioned whether age had caught up with him and wondered if he was up to fulltime hooking duties
also i didnt want to alter the strong defense on his side of the paddock
Happy to eat some pie on that one, especially with the emergence of Wighton

Fair cop Nick. Not bad questions but I'm not sure that should have ruled him out in your opinion.
I just find it funny sometimes when a former CC Medal winner gets written off and Sam Williams is hailed as our long term halfback when I am still yet to see that he is even a solid 1st grader.
Wighton sure has been a find

Shillo chewed up 167 metres today off 18 runs. Not sure if he is deserving of the captaincy but those stats certainly do not suggest he ought to be dropped all together. That has been the story of his season thus far as well. Is averaging circa 200 metres a game.

Re: 2012 Rd 10 V Eels: Teams and Previews
I see Berro a little bit like Jason Smith. Maybe not in the same class but able to bring a similar attitude to a key component of the game. Berro maybe old but his football brain and experience easily eclipse what he might have lost physically over the years.
I think we could do a lot worse than keeping him at hooker although I am partial to seeing him wear the number 7. Having him barking orders in the middle of the park might be better than Williams who still looks just a little lost when we really need him to be grabbing the game by the Balls.
If Buttsy is back this week I would much rather Berro stay in the Spine than go back to centre. Wighton is getting better each week and I like the security of Wighton when oppositions go for the high ball. I also think McCrone and Wighton once they click could be a pretty deadly combination.
I think we could do a lot worse than keeping him at hooker although I am partial to seeing him wear the number 7. Having him barking orders in the middle of the park might be better than Williams who still looks just a little lost when we really need him to be grabbing the game by the Balls.

14. Picker - I'd like to see some more game time before I lock him in
15. Harrison - quality player
16. Buttriss - is he back next week?
17. Tilse - big man
I agree our left side is average at best and it pains me every time a tackle busts through, but remember croker is our kicker to and kicks at above 80% if I remember correctly. I guess kicking goes to mccrone? Dugan has power but can he convert?
