Newcastle Knights throw career life-line to former Canberra Raiders centre Matt Allwood

Newcastle Knights have boosted their backline depth with the signing of former Canberra Raiders and Warriors centre Matt Allwood. Allwood 25, linked with the club this week on a part-time contract and is expected to line up in a NSW Cup trial against North Sydney on Friday night at Redfern Oval.

“It’s a part-time deal that just gives us a little bit of extra insurance as far as our outside back situation goes,”Knights head of football Darren Mooney said.

Forever Green: Where are they now? - Adam Mogg

This week we catch up with our former centre Adam Mogg who scored 38 tries for the club during two separate stints. Mogg played for the Raiders between 2003-2006 and also 2010. He also played for the Parramatta Eels, Catalans Dragons and represented Queensland twice during the 2006 State of Origin series.

What do you do for work now?

I currently coach the Redcliffe Dolphins in the Intrust Super Cup. I also own a large health club on the Sunshine Coast called Ezyfit Health Club.

Adam Mogg was very very handy.

He was a shining light among a team of battlers, always tried hard.

He actually went ok at 7. Was a much better centre, fixed up a few holes we had on that right side.

The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.

Canberra Raiders great signs up as Newcastle Knights halves mentor

Newcastle have added Laurie Daley to their already impressive list of recruits, enlisting the long-time NSW coach as a halves mentor in a move that will reunite him with Blues No.7 Mitchell Pearce.

Daley will juggle the Knights commitments with his new role as Michael Slater's replacement on 2KY's Big Sports Breakfast program. The two new gigs will keep him occupied after the NSWRL opted not to offer him another contract after five years in charge of the Blues.

Great player Laurie but as a coach I couldn’t stand him. Complete muppet for NSW but every time he would open his mouth up on NRL 360 as a Blues supporter I would just cringe.

Laurie is a terrible coach, awful selector and sadly living off his excellence as a fantastic player. He has no other attributes than being a great player.

I agree, as a coach I'm better.

He's proven nothing and now he's a halves coach under Mick Potter in Spoontown.

Forever Green: Where are they now? - Albert Fulivai

This week we catch up with former cult hero, Albert ‘The Prince’ Fulivai who scored 22 tries for the club during his stint at the club between 1993 - 1998.

What do you do for work now? I work in the public service for the Department of Infrastructure, Regional Development and Cities.

What is your favourite memory as a Raider? The lead up to the 1994 Grand Final, winning it and then the celebrations afterwards.

While hopeful, Jake Friend revealed the Roosters have a ‘Plan B’ in place if Keary is unable to take the field. Enter Mitch Cornish. He’s the 25-year-old utility with 19 top flight games to his name.

“He’ll be the No.1 pick if Luke isn’t there,” Friend told Fox Sports. “He was impressive in the trials. I thought he kicked really well. “He’s really calm and a good decision maker. He’ll slot in there fine. He’s been training there all season in there with Luke and (halfback Cooper) Cooper so we won’t lose much if he’s there.”

Hull KR's Andrew Heffernan continues Super League learning - as he reveals former Robins star spotted centre's potential

Tipped as one to watch even in his school days, Andrew Heffernan has always been one step ahead of his peers during his rugby league career.

“Daniel Fitzhenry brought that professional environment to a local side. I got to play in some rep teams that same year too and he fast-tracked me. I was then able to move to Canberra and their junior rep outfits.

I can’t seem to post photos via the app but I saw Josh Miller post a photo on Instagram with his little bub wearing a shirt with his Raiders number saying he hopes his son plays for the Raiders one day.

Love Miller’s passion for the club, he has totally ignored the fact he ever played for St George-Illawarra
