Simon Woolford poised to be named coach of English Super League club Huddersfield
Simon Woolford is poised to be appointed head coach of English Super League club Huddersfield less than a month after the Giants sacked ex-Newcastle Knights coach Rick Stone.
“I’ve been interviewed so now I just have to wait and see what happens,” Woolford said. “It would obviously be a really good step-up for me. But you don’t go into coaching without aspirations to be a head coach at some stage and I’m no different from anybody else in that regard.

Glen Buttriss set to face old team mates
This week’s clash between Cootamundra and Albury will also see Glen Buttriss come up against fellow former Canberra Raiders teammates Adrian Purtell and Joel Monaghan. While Monaghan is not a confirmed starter for the Thunder, Buttriss is looking forward to the clash.
“It should be good I’m looking forward to playing my old mate Adrian,” he said. “Joel Monaghan is there as well and another ex-teammate so I’m really looking forward to playing against those two boys.”

Adam Clydsdale is thrilled to follow his grandfather Bandy Adams at Pickers
Former Canberra Raiders hooker Adam Clydsdale may be a Scone junior but few players in Saturday’s opening round clash against Coalfields rivals Cessnock boast better Maitland Pickers bloodlines.
Clydsdale is the grandson of Maitland legend and former Australian representative Don “Bandy” Adams and admits to a few nerves ahead of his first grade debut for the Pickers in their return to the Maitland Sportsground.

Forever Green: Where are they now? - Michael Maguire
This week we catch up with our former backline utility and assistant coach, Michael Maguire. A player who could slot in anywhere across the backline, Maguire represented the Raiders for five years in two different stints in the mid-90s before he retired at 22 years of age due to injury.
What do you do for work now?
I’m working across the NRL as a High Performance Coach in officiating and leadership, so I’m doing bits and pieces like that in the game.

Cootamundra put in clearance for former Canberra Raiders player Lou Goodwin
Lou Goodwin could be the latest new face joining Cootamundra. The clearance request has gone in, but Goodwin does not expect to play for the Bulldogs this season.
“I’m just having this year to get them (knees) both right and then find something next year,” Goodwin said. “I don’t know where I will be, I’m still living in Sydney or I could be gone. The knees are fine at the moment, I surf every day and they never hurt, but I used to think I was invincible and now I feel like I am going to break when I touch the ball."

IIRC, Raiders were annoyed that he left, but accepted that it was the best thing for his career seeing as it would give him a shot at being a head coach, which it did.Brew wrote: ↑February 15, 2018, 6:47 pm I hope we don’t give him a job but he qualifies for one

Brew, can you ask Laurie which halfback he'd have as bench hooker?
Gina Riley: Oh, come on, John. That’s a bit old hat, the corrupt IOC delegate.
John Clarke: Old hat? Gina, in the scientific world when they see that something is happening again and again and again, repeatedly, they don’t call it old hat. They call it a pattern.

"After Robinson had a try disallowed in the right corner for not grounding the ball in goal, his exchange with touch judge Ben Teague in back play before the 20-metre optional restart saw Teague make the report that led to the Roosters NRL squad member’s dismissal."BJ wrote:BJ Mole reports that Reece told the Ref “My brother, or someone who looks just like him, slept with your sister”.reptar wrote:Reece ROBINSON spotted, well, not on the field as he was sent off for dissent. Former Canberra Raiders hooker Simon Woolford named Huddersfield Giants head coach
Huddersfield Giants have appointed Newcastle Knights assistant coach Simon Woolford as their new head coach. The 43-year-old Australian succeeds Rick Stone, who was sacked in March with the Giants 11th in Super League. Woolford is still waiting to receive a visa, but he is expected to arrive in Huddersfield in six to eight days.
"It seemed like a natural fit for me, it seemed like a great opportunity," he said.
