Tomorrow's stakes have just got higher

Post by Bay53 »

I don't think anyone was suggesting that it wasn't a huge game tomorrow but I reckon tonight's result makes it even bigger.

If (and it is a big if) you presume Manly and Melbourne win, a win tomorrow night gives us a HOME final against the Roosters. Loss and it is a trip to Suncorp to play a very much in form Broncos.

What tonights game showed, especially the first half, the intensity will rise for the finals. First half was a high quality game, then the Broncos dominated and the Roosters didn't have a lot of answers in the second half. Broncos probably bombed 2-3 tries.

We can't bring anything but our A game.

I just can't erase the memory of that game against the Broncos at Suncorp a month or two ago. That was our first real big test away from home and we just couldn't match their intensity.

Unless we have learnt from that game, we'll struggle big time tomorrow.

By gee though, it'd be awesome to see us get up and win it. My head says the Sharks (even though I don't rate them that highly), but the heart says Raiders all the way.

In this situation, assuming the Raiders beat the Sharks in all examples:

Manly lose:
Friday: Dragons vs Sharks at SFS [winner plays Melbourne @ Telstra Dome]
Saturday: Raiders vs Manly at Canberra Stadium [winner plays Broncos @ Suncorp]
Eliminated: Roosters and Warriors.

Melbourne lose:
Friday: Warriors vs Sharks possibly at Mt Smart [winner plays Manly @ SFS]
Saturday: Raiders vs Melbourne at Canberra Stadium [winner plays Broncos @ Suncorp]Eliminated: Roosters and Dragons.

Both Manly and Melbourne lose:
Friday: Warriors vs Manly possibly at Mt Smart [winner plays Broncos @ SFS]
Saturday: Dragons vs Melbourne at SFS [winner plays Raiders @ SFS]
Eliminated: Sharks and Roosters.

Brisbane were great tonight. It's even more vital that we win tomorow now.

Yep tomorrow is it really. Can't see us beating the Broncos up there the way they played. Tomorrow is as good as sudden death as far as i'm concerned.

Well the stakes are never going to go down from now on in... but yeah Brisbane were awesome. They know how to play a semi-final or two.

Plenty of people here on the GH based in Brisbane/SEQ would love another Raiders game up there I'm sure, but we'd be dusted with how the Broncos went. A win tomorrow, then 'as per program' so Melbourne and Manly advance, and we have the ideal situation.

Come on boys.

Another thing worth noting (if you think we can make the GF that is) is that we have to play the Storm in the Preliminary final in pretty much every combination of wins except if Storm and Manly loose this week :(

I thought the best thing to come out of the Brocos Vs Roosters game was the performance of David Shillington. Never took a backward step and clearly one of the better Rooster players. He do well with the Green Machine.

I liked the look of him last night, that hit he put on Corey Parker was the hit of the year imo.

Shillo's a beast.

I stand by my comments that in a couple of years he'll be one of the premiere forwards in the game. He's also well spoken and intelligent. I'm thrilled we got him!

This thread seems to have turned into a Shillo love in.

.....so I'll throw in my 2 cents worth. I think he's been under utilised by the Roosters this year with their overrated all-international pack. He's delivered every time he's been on the field and and has been consistently improving. I agree with Greensoul that he'll be one of the top props in the next couple of years and will be a great replacement for Petero and Price for Qld.
