Re: The Cricket Thread
Labuchange knicked that one down the leg side didn't he? Sounded like a noise and the ball changed its line?

If we didn't have such a terrible batting line-up ID say we would be in the box seat

Re: The Cricket Thread
Ive said Warner should play like Warner, and at least he tried to hit a bad ball, which is what he does. Unfortunately, when you are in a bad trot, rather than that flying to the fence you find a way to feather it to the keeper. Doesnt fix his lack of runs either.
Warner at the World Cup, 10 inns, 647 runs. Warner in the Ashes, 9 inns, 84 runs, including a 61. Same pitches, different ball game.

Have we had a worse opening combination?
Not been a huge fan of burns but he could have dished up better than this

Re: The Cricket Thread
Typical, another failure by an opening batsmen. Harris out for 3.
Re: The Cricket Thread
Smith flirting with danger here, padding up to a few deliveries from Curran.

Re: The Cricket Thread
Gee that’s pathetic from the third umpire.
He gives Warner out due to the slightest of noises picked up by DRS.
Then he thinks Wade has missed it, with an enormous spike and obvious deviation off the edge.

It's not close to being the same.Matt wrote: ↑September 13, 2019, 9:00 pm Ive said Warner should play like Warner, and at least he tried to hit a bad ball, which is what he does. ODI pitches are prepared in order to favour the batsmen more for the contest. They'll do much less off the surface. The red ball also behaves a lot differently to the white ball swing and seam wise.
Warner simply doesn't have much of a clue on how to play red ball cricket outside of Australia.
Re: The Cricket Thread
Once again only Labu, Smith and Lyon put up some resistance. Right near the end of the day, Harris puts down another sitter with hard hands on a caught behind. The sun may have been a factor but once again the Aussies heads go down. As expected Warner walks off with that 'I still got paid' smile on his face after being given out. Too many of the Aussies are playing like they don't want to be there.

Let's not avoid the elephant in the room. Smith out for 80. Just not good enough from him. He still has the 2nd innings to redeem himself. If not then he needs to be shown the door.

I thought I was the only one that noticed this. Huge drop in form. Surprised Matt wasn't straight in here to talk about his issues converting.Northern Raider wrote: ↑September 14, 2019, 9:11 am Let's not avoid the elephant in the room. Smith out for 80. Warner wants to convert a duck egg into a solid 10.

Re: The Cricket Thread
England 8 down at stumps and Australia will need around 400 to win. Warner would need an Arthur Morris type performance in 1948 series 4th Test for us to go anywhere near such a total. So far this series he has been extremely out of form.
LOL I'm not going any further, clearly the high of last nights win over the Storm has affected me.

This is where good ole Davey Warner swaggers out to the crease with his **** eating grin and smashes 200 from 130 balls.
Or another duck, with that **** eating grin.

Re: The Cricket Thread
I've been backing Warner to come good but my resolve is reaching breaking point. He's looking worse and worse. Another failure in 2nd innings and I'll join the chorus of those calling for his scalp.
Early rounds of the next Shield comp will present opportunities for a lot of players to crash the test team. At least 1 opening spot up for grabs. Maybe a couple of middle order spots too. Really only Smith and Labuschagne locking in their selections from this series.

Re: The Cricket Thread
In Australian conditions with a Kookaburra ball I reckon Wade is a lock as are Labu and Smith. All other spots up for grabs in the batting line up. Like this current series, I expect Starc to be in the side. He is an extremely good bowler and offers some variety to the right arm brigade.

Re: The Cricket Thread
David Warner’s 32 years old.
Any chance of him retiring from test cricket at the end of this series and just focusing on earning the big bucks playing short form?
