Justin Langer is too parochial a Western Australian to drop Bancroft at this stage IMO. However I also agree he should make way for Harris, I'd have Patterson in the line up ahead of him as well.

Well Harris is a West Aussie boy too, plays a lot like Langer himself imo.

And the rumor is Bancroft is dropped for Harris.

Well, I guess that's as good as we could hope for. Still baffled Starc isn't there.

I can't imagine Bancroft will be back in the Australian setup for awhile.

Agreed Azza. The claimed fast bowler selection rotation should see Starc in this Test after missing the first 2. There is no slope at this venue so Siddle will be less effective. So I reckon they should pick a bowler who will take his share of the 20 wickets needed. That's Starc.

If Bancroft is dropped for this match I don't see him returning to the Australian Test side. His current technique of plonking onto the front foot simply won't cut it. The time he does decide to play back it is to a spinner pitching the ball full and at his stumps. He was rightly given out LBW. It says a lot about our mediocre batting stocks that a player with such an average technique can be selected on an Ashes tour.

They are treating Starc like he’s Shaun Tait.

Good to see some changes made.

Oh, I was just about to post that this was going well.

GDI, Harris. And you were the one looking good, too.

EDIT: aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand it's raining again.

Huh, I hate when I look down for a bit, they start showing the replay and I can't figure out what Test it is.

I am thoroughly enjoying Smith and Haddin carving up, though.

Looked pretty tough conditions to bat in. Great choice by Root to send Aussies in and his bowlers delivered the goods. The ball that got Head was as good as you will see. Plenty of credit to Warner and Labuschagne for their efforts.

Poms turn now. If it’s similar tonight then they could struggle too if our bowlers put the ball on the spot.

I tend to think the poms will get 300 and we'll be in trouble.

I said it before and I'll say it again khawaja just doesn't justify his role at number 3. When Smith comes back into the lineup I suspect he will stay but his position should come under the microscope, given Marnus has actually looked pretty decent

At least our #4 can bat, or we'd be down 2 nil already.

2x 50 on the trot, filling in for Smith, Labu should be there in the 4th and 5th.

Glad to see Warner get some runs too.

Uzi again enters the 'Mark Waugh zone', needing runs to prove his place.

Wade also there, with a 100, and now 4 failures.

At this stage Labuschagne must be retained when Smith returns. 2nd innings could decide who makes way. Usi is the one at risk because Marnus can slot straight into no3. They could always shift Usi to opener but very harsh to drop Harris after only one test. They decided to give him a go so must get enough opportunity. Head has done enough previously to secure his spot for the series so Wade the only other one under any real pressure. Scored a 2nd innings ton in 1st test but done SFA else.

Wade has a hundred, and pre-Ashes runs in England. Usman has done nothing. He makes way IMO.

Of course, it probably won't work that way in practice. But sounds like we are all on the same wavelength.

I will be surprised if we hold on in this test match.

Wade? I'm not professing he is a messiah, but based on current form I'd go him over Khawaja.

Although if you are talking about Khawaja, yes he is getting very frustrating to watch.

Nah Khawaja

Not worried about Wade, he scored close to 1000 fc runs last season, plus another 600 since the start of this tour

He deserves to be dropped, at least for the time being. The issue will absolutely come to a head next test match, when we are likely back at 1-1

If neither score runs in the 2nd dig then Usi is likely the one to go. Wade saved by his 100 in the 1st test. A little perspective in that score though. It was made on a flat deck against a tired, undermanned England attack. Broad and Woakes the only front line bowlers. Wade's other 4 scores are 1,6,1 and 0.

Series stats for both Wade and Khawaja are fairly close. Wade 118 runs @ 23.60 and Khawaja 99 @ 19.80. Wade currently ahead but wouldn't take much to tip it back the other way. Matt is right and it could be a 'bat off' between them in the 2nd innings.
