Well the result was stupid. IMO shared winners would have been fine.

Re: The Cricket Thread
I don't think you can really have a shared world cup but going on total boundaries is a ridiculous rule, you may as well award It to the team who had the most
roots....
Re: The Cricket Thread
Yeah the game is already way too much in the favour of batsmen. Why not make it most wickets taken? Or replay the match? Something. It's a crap way to decide a game.

Re: The Cricket Thread
Yea it's not like they are going to go through 10 tied super overs, you'll get a winner in the first 2 or 3 max.
And while we are changing rules can we get rid of any runs from deflections off the batsmen counting? I mean even batsmen regularly refuse to take the runs when the ball doesn't make it to the boundary so why the hell do they allow the runs when the ball does make it there? Just call dead ball as soon as it hits the batsmen,
I actually think if that deflection doesn't hit stokes bat hes run out, the ball was hitting direct imo.

Meanwhile Tim Paine out for a duck in the tour game vs England Lions

Re: The Cricket Thread
The Paine issue is going to come to a head soon I would have thought. He did a good job over the summer leading the side but didn't contribute much with the bat, and with Carey doing so well and Wade also in great form can the side really afford to carry him just for his captaincy and keeping? There is of course the question of who would pick up the role if he wasn't in the side. Not an easy one for the selectors.

Re: The Cricket Thread
Has Matthew wade suddenly turned in to a half decent cricketer? Or do people.just want to hear the "nice one gary" again?
Seriously? Because I remember him being pretty rubbish at international level?
I'd be picking Carey, looks to have a far better technique and array of shots than Wade and Paine combined, may not come off but better than going with proven average cricketers

Re: The Cricket Thread
I'm absolutely filthy with England "winning" and it makes the sport look like a joke.
Both teams scored the same amount of runs, but New Zealand took more wickets. In absolutely no way, shape or form did England outplay New Zealand, but somehow England go home with the trophy. Absolute bulldust.

He's always been a good bat, he's just rubbish with the gloves
I'd pick him as a bat alone

Re: The Cricket Thread
I actually think his batting wasn't that great in pure number terms until the last couple of years, where he's suddenly scored a pretty decent number of runs.

If people are upset... Let's face it.. a "World Cup" of one day cricket is hardly that serious. One day cricket is not serious.

far more "serious" than a rugby league world cup....its the pinnacle of the sport, not every country in the world plays in the ashes incase you hadn't realised....

Re: The Cricket Thread
Boundaries deciding the WC is a farce. Wickets would be a far better decider. However... after a super over we still have a tie. So, I could totally see reason for a replay. Not sure it could get closer to really require one.
As for the keeper dilemma. I think they will pick Paine, which is crazy. I would probably pick Carey, as i believe he is a better gloveman than Wade, and looks to be the future. Wade couldnt have done any more than he has to get a run somewhere, T20, ODI or Test, and they still havent picked him. His form is so ridiculously good at the moment.
I think my side would be:
1. Warner
2. Harris vs Burns - coin toss IMO. Harris earnt his spot vs India, but Burns piled on runs vs Sri Lanka. Bancroft 3rd IMO.
3. Khawaja
4. Smith
5. Head
6. Patterson
7. Carey - as above Wade unlucky
8. Cummins
9. Starc
10. Lyon (yes batting promotion)
11. Hazelwood
12th Id hope Pattinson was fit enough.
13th Laubuchange is probably my backup bat and allrounder.

Re: The Cricket Thread
Telling the Test captain he's dropped would be a difficult conversation I'd reckon.
Considering since the ball tampering TPaine has been more popular than the good lord within cricket circles...

Re: The Cricket Thread
You are correct. However, he got the gloves and captaincy via the Stephen Bradbury method. I realize the captaincy is still an issue in the side I selected, but a guy like Head would be an ok option, seeing as though they dont want to give it to a bowler.
Re: The Cricket Thread
I'd think Paine will hold onto the C until Smith can take over again. I don't see anyone else in that side capable as caretaker outside Lyon.
Let Carey know he's in the plans.

He's passed 50 twice in 11 test innings. Thats hardly earning your spot as an opener. Burns is ahead of him on every measure.

Winx like odds of that occurring. Paine is a placeholder. Smith will be reinstated for the next home summer.

Right. I think I've calmed down enough to pop onto here for a moment.
For what it's worth, I think New Zealand should have won, but I don't really care.

Re: The Cricket Thread
Realistically the 2019 CWC wasn't won by anyone..
So it should stay with the previous champions for another 4yrs.
AUS..the 2019 CWC champions !!
