Re: The Cricket Thread
No reason to be rude. I was just asking about the score.

Re: The Cricket Thread
Great start for the Aussies.
Re: The Cricket Thread
Well we are on top. Needs a middle order corker of an innings which they are capable of, but you'd back the aussies from here. Touch wood etc

Patty Cummins, big spell please
Re: The Cricket Thread
What high quality bowling from all the Aussie quicks.
Re: The Cricket Thread
No coincidence at all that we beat the ‘top team’ in the world when we pick Lyon. No wickets but created chances and went for 4 an over. Khawaja will retire and we’ll all realize what we’re missing. Most maligned player and he’s batting 3 for a reason. Come a knockout game and we lose one early we need him at 3. Great ballsy selection and use of Behrendorff. Kudos.
well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.
Re: The Cricket Thread
I don't have an issue with Khawaja in the line up but Smith is the better bat. IMO if one of the openers gets out early Khawaja can be the next player in but if more than 15 overs have passed Smith needs to be the one who comes in first.

I like seeing Behrendorff being successful as a Canberra boy too.

Re: The Cricket Thread
If England lose to India and NZ, and Bangladesh beat Pakistan .... Bangladesh finish ahead of them.
Sri Lanka have a genuine chance at top 4 now as well.

Re: The Cricket Thread
The England v India match should be a ripper. Would actually like to see England win it.
Our middle-lower order batting and acceleration is still a concern but we do seem to be on an upward trend and the bowling was definitely stronger last night with Lyon and Behrendorff in there. Cummins has been a bit quiet recently, Starc is looking deadly.

We play NZ on Saturday, it will be another good game.
And I've found the reason AUS are going well..
Ash Barty was at Lords yesterday, hanging out with the boys..

Re: The Cricket Thread
While I believe that on their day, the WI, NZ and the Poms can beat us. I only fear 1 team, and that's India. So, if those other teams could just take care of them, then I reckon we win the WC.
On another note...
I worry about whats going to happen when Warner and Finch fail. Those 2 have scored 500 and 496 in the tournament. As yet, its happened once, and NCN had to dig us out of a hole with a swashbuckling 90. Uzi and Smith only have a coupe of scores, Maxy and Carey have been cameo's only, Stoinis and Marsh have done squat. Hmmm....

Re: The Cricket Thread
We worried similarly when Gilchrist and Hayden left, but still found a way, so it will work out.
EDIT - just realised you meant in this tournament, not long term. Yep - that's why Smith needs to be in at 3 - he can stage a recovery better than anyone - did it well against England in the warm ups and against West Indies.
Like everyone India is vulnerable under pressure - if we played them on a wicket like the one a couple of days ago would have been much closer. The fact we beat them in India a few months back shows we can get under their skin if we play well. We didn't go in with the right attack against them and paid the price.
I feared England before the world cup but their form has dipped.

Re: The Cricket Thread
England has a flat track bully game plan, which is all well and good in the middle of summer on roads, but it's early summer and still reasonably cold from all reports
a lot of the decks have had some moisture which they cant adapt to

Re: The Cricket Thread
I actually think pitches with juice suit us better - with the accumulators we have in the side and power hitting isn't our strength. If it's a flat track against sides like India we find it harder.

Re: The Cricket Thread
England on 8 points with games against NZ and India. Pakis on 7 points with games against the Banger and Afghanistan. They would have to be huge chances to knock the Poms out of the finals.
Sri Lanka a rough hope on 6 points with 3 matches left vs SA, Windies and India. Probably have to win all 3.

Re: The Cricket Thread
Pakistan will definitely beat those two weak teams, unless there’s an Indian bookmaker in town......
Re: The Cricket Thread
Yes, no guarantees with Pakistan. Imagine if there is a washout in one of England's games? They could be up **** creek.
I'm assuming the final will be at Lord's, which may suit us if against India?

Re: The Cricket Thread
gonna be a bad night of sport.... first we have to endure a faiders loss , now the kiwis are thrashin us in the cricket
Re: The Cricket Thread
Come on, we are still way in this. But geez NZ irritate me - useless dibby dobblers who still manage to trouble us. Time for Stoinis to do something with the bat for once (last time he did , it was against NZ from memory)

Re: The Cricket Thread
Why is it so difficult for Maxwell to play with a straight bat, even for a few overs...
