Renshaw love? lol - from what I can see, there's only one person that's suggested him. To have him in the team ahead of Khawaja for example (assuming Head gets no 5) would be farcical.

I include Steve Waugh and a mate who’ve building up Renshaw lately. Bemusing.

Yeah ok. Well I still rate Steve Waugh's opinion ahead of dribbler SK Warne.

Warney has amazing insight about 1 in 10 and absolute head scratchers about 3 in 10.

If I was picking, Harris would be the odd man out. I think he is useless. So:

Warner
Uzi
Labu
Smith
Head
Green
Inglis (Very torn, as all the options avg mid 30s in 1st class (actually Wade is 40, but next best is List A at 32, and the rest are sub 30). I think there is a wrong option at keeper (Wade 33yrs), a likely choice (Carey 30yrs) as its safe, but no correct one. I'm kinda tempted to punt on the 24yr old Phillipe, as he looks a batting talent, but not 100% sure his glovework is up to it).
Cummins
Starc

HWood

I agree with most of that.

Warner
Khawaja
Labuschagne
Smith
Head
Green
Carey
Cummins
Richardson
Lyon
Hazlewood

Starc is saved for the pink ball test. He's been poor for a long time atm.

Took me a long time to come around to Carey. His form is concerning.but I'd pick him solely based on the fact that he upped his game when Australia needed it most in 50 over cricket.

Phillipe shouldn't be considered. Not first choice for his state and Wade kept in front of him in t20 Aus side
well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.

It may be the wicketkeeper is a fairly unsettled position in the line up for quite some time

Carey's 100 in the ODI might seal it.

Not really - I'd expect he'd get selected for this test series, but for the next 2-3 years remains completely an open question.

Interesting from Ed Cowan,

Former Test opener Ed Cowan says he would pick Usman Khawaja over Travis Head for the Ashes.

Speaking on The Grandstand Cricket Podcast, Cowan said the Queensland Bulls captain was more of a match-winner and the best person for the middle-order job at this point in time.

“Usman's hundreds are match-winning hundreds. He can play all around the world, he’s got genuine leadership capability and sure he’s 34 and we might only get two years out of him… but when it's head-to-head and you consider who is the best person for the job at this point in time, it’s got to be Usman.”

The 5th Ashes test scheduled for Perth’s Optus Stadium on Jan 14 is on shaky ground.

WA premier MM has insisted all players, staff, families of players, broadcasters WILL do 14 days quarantine once entering WA.

Only 5 days between the end of the 4th and the start of the 5th.

MM ain’t budging. So it looks like CA will be chasing another venue.

If WA want to shut themselves off from the rest of the country then send the test elsewhere. Tassie, ACT or another test in Sydney or Adelaide.

I'd say Sydney would just get the last 2 tests in a row. Would allow the touring party an extended away in the one city too.

Canberra shouldn't be hosting an Ashes test. Melbourne's wicket is too poor for a second. If Tasmania opens up I think Hobart would be a good shout.

Booo! We want a men's (women played here didn't they Ashes?) Ashes Test here in Canberra.

I'd say Hobart is the go TBH

I think the other venues will be chasing CA. Most accept the 'double vax' criteria and don't require 14 days isolation. If MM doesn't change then WA will miss an Ashes Test. I don't think MM will change so opportunity for others.

Carey was next cab off the rank, hoping he can focus on test cricket and go to the required level.
Surely with Wade, Inglis and Phillipe we can save Carey from limited overs for a while.

Yup, Carey was next man up. It was the safe choice.

I'd like to see Phillipe given some serious help. I think he could well be the next guy, if given the investment.
