Re: The Cricket Thread
Australia batting averages for this series:
Labuschagne 53.25
Smith 44.71
Paine 40.80
Pucovski 36.00
Green 33.71
Wade 21.62
Harris 21.50
Burns 21.00
Head 20.66
Warner 16.75
Marnus and Smith on top as usual. Paine with one of his best series with the bat. Ironically combined with his worst with the gloves. Pucovski and Green promising starts. Wade, Harris, Burns and Head all disappointing. 2 of them already dropped and the other 2 on the way out. Warner was obviously hobbled by injury so he gets a fee pass.

Re: The Cricket Thread
Incredible test match. India fielding a patched together team and have the highest successful chase at the Gabba. To think that half of them will be dropped for their next test.

Definitely, to win the series after being rolled for 36 with their B team is a serious effort.Azza wrote:Outstanding effort by India. Totally deserving win.
But geez there's some heads that need to roll, starting with Mitchell Starc

Re: The Cricket Thread
Well deserved. India's B team absolutely outplayed us over the last 3 tests. Without a 5 day limit, India would still be batting in Sydney right now and then they barely looked like dropping wickets today until they realised they effectiely couldn't lose and started throwing the bat at a few balls.
Overall, some predictable and unthreatening 4th innings bowling from Aus after Adelaide.

Sadly, hardly anyone to replace them with. How the might of Australia has fallen.-TW- wrote: ↑January 19, 2021, 5:49 pmDefinitely, to win the series after being rolled for 36 with their B team is a serious effort.Azza wrote:Outstanding effort by India. Totally deserving win.

James Pattinson, Jai Richardson, Michael Neser. Plenty of alternatives if you want to sit Starc for a few games.Azza wrote: ↑January 19, 2021, 5:57 pmSadly, hardly anyone to replace them with. Re: The Cricket Thread
All good.
While I take my hats off to the Indians, if any series to me sums up the changing of the guard in cricket, it's this. I know Australia have been on the decline for 10 years now, but this was a really sad series loss for mine.

The writing was on the wall the last Indian tour with that drawn series, where India was clearly the better side.Azza wrote:All good.

Agree with your other comment. Test cricket is just so captivating when you have fairly even teams competing.
I think this loss was mostly mental. Kohli going home, the Aussies just thought they'd romp it in. They seemed to just be going through the motions.

Re: The Cricket Thread
Out biggest problem right now is lack of depth in batting. No short term fix for that unfortunately. We have to hope guys like Green and Pucovski kick on.
Bowling we have good depth but we're not utilising it. I'd like to see guys like Pattinson and Richardson get some time on the field. Even Neser as a change of pace seam bowler.
