yep I'm on this too but talk on the radio Warner won't be fit for boxing day

TBH, another game to assess who, is beneficial. Becomes a 3 way bat off. Burns vs Wade vs Head. I really really really think they like what they see in Green and wanna see more.
we've been dreaming of a Jacques kallis since Steve waugh gave up bowling, Green is the next in the queue.

Watto was the closest we've had. Not quite good enough with either bat or ball though. You need someone who can legitimately hold their place in the team with either discipline. Green has that potential.
Ive actually been looking at Watto vs Flintoff today, and their numbers in Tests and ODIs are actually pretty similar.

Tests, Freddie played 20 more than Watto - 79 vs 59.
Batting:
Watto is approx 100 runs less, slightly better avg, 32 vs 35 for Watto. 2 less 100s, 2 less 50s. Basically, Watto went big or less than 15, his skyline is very up and down.
Watto is clearly the better bat, but Avg doesn't really reflect it, hence the countries frustration.

Bowling
Avg is similar, in the early 30s - 32 vs 33 for Watto. Wattos has the better Econ, 2.75 vs 2.97. MASSIVE wickets difference though, 75 vs 226 Freddie. His strike rate is better too 66 vs 73.

ODIs.
Freddie 141 games, 169 wickets @ 24.38, and econ of 4.39. Batting avg 32, 3x100 and 18x 50.
Watto 190 games, 168 wickets @ 31.79, and econ of 4.95. Batting avg 40, 9x 100 and 33x 50.

Watto was very much under appreciated. He was still a waste of talent at Test level.

BTW, Shaun Pollock's Test record is worth another look. Certainly a bowler 1st, but avg batting avg of 32

I don't care what the stats say tbh, I found Watson a ridiculously irritating cricketer. Maybe his knack for wasting reviews and then scoffing when was given out anyway didn't help.

He became a metaphor in that regard e.g. "he really Watto'd that review".

He was very average for a long time. Was only really when he primarily was a bat who bowled a bit where he really hit his straps

Yeah but I felt he got red carpet ride from the selectors who wanted to "make" him succeed, so he got lots of chances others didn't. And he did go through a year or so where he started to score more runs at the top of the order, but he rarely converted starts into big 100s. Massive candidate for LBW.

Yeah definitely, after 05 the selectors believed we absolutely needed an all rounder.. so that helped him when we was rubbish

Always felt to me like a flat track bully too. Seemed to mainly deliver when there was little pressure/need.

Watto played during an era when there wasn't a lot of players knocking the door down for selection. While he got a soft run from selectors I can't recall him keeping any potential stars out of the team.

Well I put it down to lack of runs. Those couple of dodgy LBW decisions cost you big time.

I think I saw legitimately the worst lbw decision in the heat strikers game

Hit it, plus it wasn't even hitting 5th stump

Wasn't hitting the stumps after it hit the bat. It was not out by every possible measure. Can only put it down to a loss of concentration by the umpire. Cooper was batting garbage at the time but he would have still made a better partner for Pierson in the close out.

Wow, I don't really watch much of this 20/20 rubbish but the standard of umpiring looks atrocious. Talking Steve Bucknor levels aye.

Burns is totally lacking in confidence. Just hanging the bat out there with no conviction.

Edit. Bumrah bowling well though.

Old hawkeye throwing up interesting ones again. Marnus was plumb but had it going way over the top. Must have thought it was one of those high bounce rubber balls.

Pretty poor batting from the Australians, Wade played a dud shot to get out that was unnecessary, Labu lucky to still be there and playing some reckless shots as well.
