Id argue 67 at #3 or 78 at #4 makes sweet FA difference. Smith is best since Bradman. He will bat where he wants too, and so he should. I suspect it's at 4.

Well, I'd have preferred something closer to 400 to bowl at - just to really demoralise them, you know? - but practically 360 is still a very difficult chase.

Poms need 359 to win.
Achievable, esp with 2 and a half days, but not exactly easy.

I'm sure this is a bit harsh, but is it just me, or does Cummins appear to bowl better 1st change?

How good has thebuschange been since coming in for Smith, the English were laughing about how easy this test was going to be. A half century last test and to back it up with two more now.

Urk.

Well, we still have lots of runs in the bank and seven wickets to get. We still got this.

A bit of a worry, but if we can get 1 or two quick wickets we should still be ok. Frankly, England don't deserve to win.

I'd argue that of they can chase down this score then they thoroughly deserve to win. Would be an amazing comeback. I don't think they can do it though.

Either way we're set for a cracker day 4.

I would argue not. They have been rubbish this test match, still, if they get the runs then they get the cookies.

That means if we let them chase down 360 in the 4th innings after rolling them for 67 then we didn't deserve to lose.

It's one of the great things about test cricket. Ebb and flow between the teams for several days and it all come down to 4 innings performance.

With the cloud cover on day 1, I reckon the best day to bat was yesterday. Question will be, will it break up enough, early enough, to allow the Aussies to win?
I suspect, if the Poms get 75-80runs before lunch, for the loss of 1 wicket, I think they will win.

Not twisting words at all. It pretty basic premise. If poms don't deserve to win then the Aussies do. What alternative is there?

That's some illustrious company. I can only aspire to that level of muppetness. To sit in 2nd place behind them is quite an honour.

Wait, 2nd behind at least 7 people. :? Now you're intentionally trying to confuse me more. :x

I thought they were all the same person. I hope for that person's sake, we get some early wickets tonight, it would be a huge embarrassment to lose this test from here.

The genius of test cricket. England can’t score against the pace bowlers, we throw Lyon on to throw some up and he produces a wicket straight away. Great catch Warner

Gotta get these 2 rangas out. Remove them we got this. If they hang around we're in trouble.

I'd like to see them dig it in a bit shorter. Plan seems to be pitch it up and try to entice the edge. Ball not doing enough and we're starting to leak runs. Drop the length back and keep it in the off stump corridor. Put pressure back on the batsmen.

Yeah, go back to basics and keep it tight. Some patience will go a long way here. Lyon can put the pressure on at one end and the quicks can take it in turns at the other.

Bairstow gone quickly after lunch. Paddled at a short wide one. His aggression has cost him there. That's a leave ball any other time.
