I was on the right track as I didn't have Prince of Arran or Master of Reality in my final winning chances but had them genuine top 4 contenders. Vow and Declare I gave a chance to but it was a case of liking others more. In hindsight I screwed that one up.
Alway know what I should have done after the race.

After getting burned in 2017 on Rekindling, I have had to put bets on light weights the last 2 years and luckily picked the right ones (thanks to NR).

I've already gone a cheeky each way on Skyward for next years cup. $56/$14

Exactly my thoughts, particularly after his win on Saturday. Unlucky in Geelong Cup behind Prince of Arran before that. Form stacks up.

I'm always cautious about 3yos taking on orders horses the first time. Can win but I wouldn't be taking too short odds.

Look I’m hearing you and I don’t disagree with your comments but Alligator Blood is a bit special I think , he absolutely toyed with his rivals last start after being stuck in traffic and arrived late on course. Honestly I think this horse is pretty smart...

AB Hasn’t had a proper spell since his 2 year old days, and doesn’t look like he’ll get one until at least late April. That’s a query for me, but I trust VanDyk will look after him.

As for YYY, he’s a serious talent - I hope Exceedance and Bivouac are all competing with him this prep before they’re all likely retired.

I feel Australian racing lacks a 3YO group 1 sprint in the Autumn, to bring them altogether. The Arrowfield stakes, while its worth $1million, it’s a Group 2 and is somewhat treated accordingly. The 2016 edition had Japonisme, Counterattack and Takedown as the top 3, which is as good as it has gotten in recent years. I wonder why it hasn’t been elevated to Group 1 level. The TJ is a week prior, maybe it’s worth pushing the 3YO race back a week, to All Aged Stakes day.

Throw in filly’s Libertini, Loving Gaby and maybe California Zimbol - this is the best crop of 3YO sprinters we’ve had in a while.

I wouldn't use his last start as a guide. He was many many lengths better than that field. Beat them like he should have, disrupted trip and all.

He’ll generate significant interest due to the Everest win and it’s a good move commercially, but gee it sucks to see 3YO’s retired without a Group 1.

Long gone are the days of the likes of Lonhro racing 30 odd times, before retiring to stud.

This will be Castelvecchio’s last prep. He’s the one to follow heading on a path toward the Rosehill guineas, then maybe onto the Queen Elizabeth.

He had a tendon injury which always casts doubt on their long term racing future. Commercially it's a huge risk to try and keep them racing.

On the flip side many young stallions go off to stud to leverage the hype. Often they've not been tested in open company. If they did it might get exposed and show that their not as good as the hype.

Far more money to be made at stud that on the track for some of these.

Yeah all the big studs are big businesses relying on their investment to produce for them quickly. They need to attract quality Mares early.

The Autumn Sun is probably a great example of such, everyone wanted him to race on, Waller was raving about him but when Redoute’s died and the opportunity to send him to the Mares that were booked for Redoute’s arose, it was a no brainer to retire him.

Doesn't take much. A Group 1 winning 3yo gets a stone bruise and they instantly retire it.

One of mine at Eagle Farm today a very good chance at $12.00. Race 7 no9 PLITVICE. Well worth something each way.

How did I miss this....I was glued to 78 watching the full card at Caulfield instead.

Another 3YO colt looks set for stud, but great to see it being another son of Redoute’s. Alabama Express raced 3 deep into the wind, was under pressure 500 out and let rip (with the help of some luck), to win the group 1 CF Orr. He’ll probably be standing at Arrowfield later in the year.

This 3YO crop are outstanding.

Might need more than an Orr Stakes to justify retirement to a major stud.

They’ll have a crack, but he’s already part owned by Arrowfield and a lack of Group 1 wins hasn’t stopped them in the past. It’s the type of blood line they’ll bend for to accommodate.

Not a Single Doubt, more recently Scissor Kick and Panzer Division (although quickly moved on) - never landed Group 1 wins.

I guess it comes back whether they see an upside to racing on. Arrowfield prefer to stand the elite bloodstock and even though the Orr is a G1 it's not really a "stallion making" race. They couldn't ask a top dollar service fee just on the back of that and they wouldn't want to prematurely retire one just to stand at a low end fee. If he franks the win with another big race in the Autumn then yes, he probably will get retired.
