Cricket on pay tv is going to really hurt the game. Such a stupid decision.

Agreed. What a boneheaded decision from Cricket Australia to allow this to happen. Or at least show some ODIs on free to air. To completely cut them off from the FTA market is ridiculous. Australian pay tv penetration is low compared to countries such as the US and UK, it will really hurt the game in the end.

We got there in the end.
On another note, Burns and Renshaw posted 100s today. Burns was off 54 balls.

Frustrating watching the Aussies in the T20 last night. I thought 108 was fairly achievable target off 10 overs. For some reason they thought they needed to win the game in the power play. Gave away too many wickets attempting trick shots. There's no lack of talent. Seriously lacking in the mental aspect.

Have to question the rationale around Langer being coach in all formats of the game. T20 is nothing like test cricket.

Yeah but for some messed up reason everytime the Marsh boys beat up on some park cricketers in shield the selectors decide this is the time that they are going to become half competent international cricketers

Classic case of 'good coach' really being a case of coaching good cattle. WA has been the strongest state for nearly a decade - doesnt mean they had the best players, just the greatest depth. NSW probably would have pushed them, but they have anywhere between 4-7 playing for Australia in any given summer.

The other issue is JL is right. ATM SMarsh is one of the best players in the country. That says more about the state of Aussie cricket than anything else.

I don’t think I need to say anymore about Langer than pinpoint his first 2 theories on selection and how they benefited the team.

#1 was leaving out Maxwell altogether and Renshaw based on ‘not enough time in the middle’. This led to the Marshes at 3 and 4 wit Labuschagne in the middle order as well. Was always, always going to fail. Yes covering the loss of Smith and Warner would always be difficult but this just made things worse than it had to be. Now we’re likely to go into the Australian summer with Finch opening despite not being good enough to bat higher than 5 for Victoria for a good 6 years or so. Finch in the middle isn’t a bad shout given the circumstances but watch this space with him opening in seaming conditions.

#2 is leaving out Tremain due to off season fitness concerns. The bloke was called up late, a bit out of nick, and it was held against him. Instead he brought in Siddle, Doggett and Neser. Just have a look at how Tremain has started the Shield season.

You can’t even really fault Marsh in the team given what’s available at the moment but he’s really backed himself into some horrible corners selection wise so far.

Cant and wont disagree.

Maxwell was one of the 1st names picked, esp in the UAE, as far as Im concerned. Previous coaches only picked him on the subcontinent because he can play spin. Next thing to look at is his shield career, and, he is one of the better performing career options out there. Terrible selection. However, with his inconsistent record at international level (in all formats), and what seems to be a personality issue, he is being pigeon-holed and punished.

I would have gone Sayers over Tremain, BUT, he is a better bowler than Siddle, Doggat and Neser. That said, Sayers would be a terrible selection on a wicket that doesnt move.

Nice to see Pattinson bowling again too. 5 overs, and took 3 for in the 1st dig. 12 overs for none in the 2nd.

Here are some interesting options, that, in trying times, should totally be options...
Cam White - Has avged 40+ basically his entire career. Has the experience required, and mental toughness. Has been at that level before too. He is a guy who can make ugly runs when required.

Matt Wade (*shudder*) - As much as it pains me to say it, he is in crazy good form with the bat, and batting above Paine for Tassie (probly because they have reversed the gloveman). That is enough to be better than Paine ATM. Too much weight and pressure on Paine to be keeper, captain and batsmen. Its showing IMO. At his best, he has shown he can mix it at this level. The trick is to punt him once that form waivers.

Alex Doolan (*shudder*) - Like Khawaja, Cowan and Burns, looked a little as sea when he 1st came into the Test level, but got better as he went. He is the leading run scorer this year, and has a 90 and 100 in his last 2 games. Old enough to know his game etc.

I'm glad CA has stuck to its commitment to enforce the full bans. Anything less would have reinforced the 'win at any cost' culture. So what if a few 20:20 or 50 over or test matches are lost. Give some young blokes an opportunity and confirm premeditated cheating will not be given an early mark.

Reducing the bans would be worse PR then the bans themselves

CA were on the nose for letting guys like Warner dictate a culture where they acted like a bunch of *****, which was putting the public offside

The bans were a chance to put the foot down, and right the wrongs.. even if it meant some pain for the team

The bans were ridiculous, especially for Smith. Though I'd be happy to see Warner never selected in any representative team ever again.

It hurts me to see Smith banned for such a long time. I personally don't think he deserves it.

If Wade were to come back in it has to be as keeper. He’s probably not a good enough keeper to do that. But he’s definitrly not a good enough batsman to play as a specialist 6 imo.

I don’t mind the mention/shout of Cam White. He’s a bloke that will give his all and could replace The others short term. Age shouldn’t matter considering the career of Voges just recently. Best slipper in the country which would help with Smith out atm too.

Although in saying that I think Ferguson deserved his call up when he got it and was treated poorly thereafter. No runs this year but he’s been the best middle order bat over the last 4 years in the shield.

Id have him as the keeper, and bat at 7.
I just think he is in better nic than Paine.

Wade is a **** keeper. I don't give a flying **** how many runs he's scoring. He's a liability behind the stumps. He either plays as a batsman or not at all.

Disagree GE. The Captain of the National team up to his armpits in cheating cannot be waived through. As Captain he should have been setting high standards. Instead he let himself and everyone who looked up to him down.

I expect he will come back into the side and he better have developed a thick skin because he will be a target for opposition fans like the barmy army. He wears his heart on his sleeve so that makes him a certain target.
