No idea man - however, if you want to see a great movie with Ray Liotta in it, watch Narc. He plays a violent yet brilliant cop, and he is an absolute monster. Brtual movieBegbie wrote:Michael wrote:I like it how Rachel Griffiths and Ray Liotta play Depp's parents in Blow, despite the fact that both of them are younger than him.
Its not a bad movie, but a little pointless.
True - engaging none the less.
Have they shown "Smith" with Ray Liotta in Australia yet? I thought it was good, had to laugh when I saw Simon Denny from A Country Practice in it though. I'm still waiting for part 4...

Watched Nudist Colony of the Dead on the weekend. I don't usually like musicals but this one was brilliant. Now I have to hunt down the sequel, Stiffs With Stiffies.

Re: The Film Thread
I have been watching a few films lately.
Do we have any Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas fans here?
Watched that movie a few months back. I felt high watching it. Enjoyable though. I rate it.
Also bought Fight Club on DVD. I like that film. If you haven't already check it out.
I watched Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind 3 times two weeks ago. This is one of my favourite films this decade. All the camera tricks were great. In a world of Lord Of The Rings, The Matrix and Star Wars I enjoyed the old way of magic.
Plus who doesn't like Jim Carrey?! Or Kate Winslet for that matter.
So in short:
Fight Club
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas

Yeah Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas rocks!
I know I’ll probably get burnt for this as it is hardly cinematic genius, but I watched Hot Rod a couple of weeks back and I gotta say that and Semi-pro are my favourite movies at the moment.

Re: The Film Thread
I know we've been over this before, but I thought Fear and Loathing was horrible - it was just bits a pieces from the book slapped together with basically no context. It doesn't even make sense, and it misses virtually the whole point of the novel. I'll admit that it would be almost impossible to make a coherent movie based on the book, so here's an idea Terry Gilliam - don't f**king try!
Disjointed drug jokes does not a great movie maketh...
On a lighter note, I watched Point Blank with Lee Marvin the other night. Marvin plays a professional robber Walker (we never learn his first name) who is double crossed and left for dead by his partner Reese, who steals $93,000 and runs off with his wife. Lee Marvin then spends the next 90 minutes stalking around the San Francisco bay area in a trance-like state, bumping off members of 'The Organization' to get to to Reese, whom he eventually finds in Alcatraz. Its one of those hyper-stylised movies that got made a lot in the late 60's early 70's, where its hard to tell what is real and what is imagined. Great stuff.

Re: The Film Thread
Yeah, I generally don't like films that cover up a lack of story or try to piece together a theme with a bunch of crazy **** which ultimatley means nothing but a lame attempt at something original or warped in that "drug film" way which all the kids eat up.
I thought that Fear and Loathing was so far over that line and the story was so pointless that that became the point of the film so I just sort of accepted it for what it is. A bunch of useless **** with no reason with two drug **** guys going on an adventure.
I don't know if anyone has seen a film called The Acid House. Its a Scottish film. They speak english but its so Scottish that it has subtitles!
I haven't seen it in 7 years or so and I remember little of it except that it was possibly one of the craziest films I have ever seen.
I want to see it again to remind myself.

Re: Movie and TV chat
I watched No Country For Old Men last night (absolutely spectacular on Blu-Ray btw)
I thought it was an awesome movie but was a little confused with the ending.
Just wondering, for those that had seen it what they thought of it and what they made of the ending?

Re: The Film Thread
Watched the original Get Carter last night for the first time in a few years...
I forgot how brutal it was - Michael Caine just stalks around in an overcoat with a shotgun punishing people. His rage when he watches a porn flick with his niece/possible daughter in it is a sight to behold.
Also, post-industrial Newcastle might just be the worst place on earth if that movie is anything to go by.

Re: The Film Thread
I saw two movies on Showcase tonight... one a doco on the Bush/Kerry campaign, which was fascinating... sad to see how pathetic the Democrat campaign was... and then a HBO movie "Recount" which showed what happened in the 2000 Florida re-count. Sad to see how the USA's election processes are so open to intervention from politicians and courts... I wonder what the world would be like today if Gore had won instead of Bush?
Re: The Film Thread
There's been some brilliant stuff on Showcase - have you watched Breaking Bad or Low Winter Sun GE?
Re: The Film Thread
Show case is pretty good, SATISFACTION is a good show, some very hot women on there.
Re: The Film Thread
No but will keep a watch for them now.Michael wrote:There's been some brilliant stuff on Showcase - have you watched Breaking Bad or Low Winter Sun GE?
Showcase is great... I loved The Tudors and looking forward to Season 2 and presently John Adams is great.

Just watched 2:37... Decent Australian film, I would recommend.
I liked Juno but thought it wasn't worth the hype. The hype killed it for me, I was expecting something much more.

Re: The Film Thread
the other night i watched Lions for Lambs
i really enjoyed the movie, i thought with Cruise and Streep in it, i'd be going out of my mind with desire to perform carnivorous acts upon those two but it was great
the exchanges between Redfern and his student were the most interesting part of the film, though that being said the cruise - streep stuff was good as well.
Not nearly as horrible as i thought i'd be.

'W' is one of the few movies I've walked out afterwards saying '**** was that?'
Sadly, it isn't some 14th or 15th century play involving fictional characters - although the Bush family plays out like one, Daddy complex after Daddy complex - watching it makes you aghast that this **** played out with the entire planet as the Bush family playground.
Bizarre film though. Oh and Laura Bush was hot

I bought Juno the other day the Tic Tac version.
Watched it for the first time on Sunday, watched it 2 more times since. One of my favourite films already with some quality lines and one of the great characters and performances.
"Yo yo yiggidy yo!"

"No, it's Morgan Freeman. Do you have any bones that need collecting?"

Just saw "The Painted Veil" with Naomi Watts and Edward Norton. I hadn't heard much about it... and it was a brilliant. Set in China in the 1920s, the photography is stunning and the soundtrack brilliant. Fantastic film.
