The Ship Song - Nick Cave
Throw your arms around me - Hunters and Collectors
Don't Dream It's Over - Crowded House
I was only 19 - Redgum
And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda - Eric Bogle
To Her Door - Paul Kelly
Berlin Chair - You Am I

I think Gotye's big singled and One Crowded Hour will be remembered fondly in the future too.
One crowded hour....Great song I think it was no 1 in the hottest 100 but it was by augie March

I think if Paul McCartney, one of the greatest songwriters ever, thinks Dont dream its over is one of the best songs ever written, that should seal it.

I also have to say Into my Arms by Nick Cave. That's on the shortlist for 1st dance at the wedding.

AND why has Powderfingers The day you come not had a mention?

Thanks SB. I was trying to convince the other half to have Where the wild roses grow, or Red right hand, but they got quashed.

Im also liking the acoustic version of Everlong... too many possibilities

Was just seeing this on The Tonight Show. I don't know how successful this has yet been in the US, but is there a catchier Australian song in many years?

I do think the first three in the thread are amongst the best ever.

Sunny boys, alone with you
Goanna, solid rock
INXS , never tear us apart
Dingoes, way out west
Men at work, overkill
midnight oil, Hercules

A few that spring to mind

Midnight Oil's 'Forgotten Years' and 'one country' are amongst my favourite Australian songs.

BTW The Oils need way more love in this thread. No Aussie band has so many quintessentially Australian songs.

The dead heart.

Massive oils fan, always will be. This place has always had oils fans and links to clips etc so I reckon you are wrong. This clip is a hair spiked. It has always given me goose pimples. Enjoy Gem

I'm sorry mate, I know we have had our disagreements in the past but that is behind us. Are you telling me that "green limousine" by the bad loves is te greatest Aussie song ever produced? it's terrible! It's like saying Mitch Brennan is the best ever rugby league player in history, there are a tens of thousands australian songs better than that.

Darrul Braithwaite currently on the cricket world cup opening ceremony.

He is looking very tired.

No Eiurovision for him. Guess we'll send Pauline Pantsdown :?

Diesel and Dust - Beds are Burning, Put Down That Weapon, Sell My Soul, Warakurna, Sometimes, Gunbarrell Highway etc.

Blue Sky Mining - Bedlam Bridge, Forgotten Years, Mountains of Burma, River runs Red, One Country.

Red Sails in the Sunset is my fav Oils album but 10-1 is right up there as well.
What a band they were. I've seen them heaps of times. They say you don't hear Midnight Oil, you feel them. How true.

I've always thought the forgotten years was kind of crap, like the kind of song you would play to someone who you wanted to get into the oils.

Hercules, short memory. That is where it is. That is the Gospel!
