Actor James Garner dead at 86

Hollywood actor James Garner, known for his parts in the original Maverick, The Rockford Files and The Notebook has died, aged 86.

Entertainment website TMZ reported that an ambulance was despatched to the actor's Los Angeles home on Sunday but he was dead when they arrived.

Garner's career spanned more than five decades, in both television and movies.

His TV roles included Bret Maverick in the 1950s western-comedy series, Maverick, and Jim Rockford in the 1970s detective drama, The Rockford Files.

RIP. Wonderful actor.
The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.

If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.
