Re: The Politics Thread 2021
Well that's unexpected. Without having paid too much attention to the race, I agreed that Trump's fraud shenanigans would suppress Republican turnout, but not to the extent that the Democrats should look on-track to win both seats - in Georgia, of all places.
Assuming that's how it goes, I wonder what they'll do with full control of the government.

Re: The Politics Thread 2021
CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS project Warnock is elected to the US Senate.
Re: The Politics Thread 2021
Even Fox News has now projected Warnock as the winner.
Re: The Politics Thread 2021
Wornock and Ossoff both won hours ago when I told you
It was clear then which way this was going to go
As for what the dems might do, they must expand the Supreme Court, justice Breyer should retire as soon as Biden is sworn in and they need to put in meaningful gun reform and voting rights reform
Tick those boxes and they’ll be off to a good start in 2021

Re: The Politics Thread 2021
Ossoff now leads by 12,000. If both Senate seats fall Democrat, it is a huge rejection of Trump and the politics of hate, lies and deception... some faith restored in democracy in the USA. Probably until the circus that’ll be tomorrow.

Tomorrow is going to be an interesting day, I’ll be eagerly checking my news feed when I wake in the morning
Re: The Politics Thread 2021
Dont sweat it, Bossman
This lead is far more likely to grow not shrink
It's a wrap... its really something special that it's a place like Georgia of all places, where racism and voter supression has reigned supreme for so long, is putting the final chumps of dirt on the grave of the Trump term
I stole this joke off twitter but Mitch McConnell has now become the thing he hates most - a minority.
Re: The Politics Thread 2021
Trump protestors have stormed the Capitol Building, stopping the counting process. Some are inside the building.
Trump appears to have encouraged it in a speech to the “rally” this morning: https://www.news.com.au/world/north-ame ... 74cd7ae2ab

Re: The Politics Thread 2021
There is even tear gas being let off inside the building. Truly frightening.
Re: The Politics Thread 2021
Yep sounds like all hell is loose in the Capitol Building

Absolutely wild scenes. This is literally Trump’s final fling
Re: The Politics Thread 2021
They are smashing windows and climbing through them to get into the building. They have done it with a riot squad shield.

God bless America hey.
Re: The Politics Thread 2021
I honestly don't understand how it got to this point - where a lone police officer / security guard is being chased up the stairs by protesters. They have an unbelievable amount of police and military in the North West - well in the whole damn country, yet they can't secure a building?

They must clearly have been caught off guard, what with having only a month's notice that this was going to happen.

Good grief, that response was nothing short of embarrassingCoastalraider wrote:Trump up next.
Re: The Politics Thread 2021
What a terribly inadequate response from Trump. Biden certainly acting as you'd expect a President to do.
Meanwhile, CNN has called the second Senate seat in Georgia for Ossoff. No recount possible, given the margin is now more than 0.5 per cent.

Re: The Politics Thread 2021
Goodness me.
Where are all those cops who were heavy handed with the BLM protesters? they dont appear to be around to treat these guys the same
Have to wonder what the difference is

Even Ricky Stuart and Raiders fans showed more restraint after the 6 again fiasco of the 2019 Grand Final.
Looking back. Maybe we should have marched on the Civic Merry go round.
PS Trump is the most dangerous man in America.

Thankfully, the members of the Congress are aiming to resume tonight with the count. The Republican leadership are apparently trying to get the "objectors" to withdraw them. The "objectors" should feel as much shame as Trump over today... but they probably won't.

The woman shot has died. More blood on the hands of Trump and the Republican Party.
Edit - Fui that Twitter handle doesn’t match well the content. That guy very confused?

Re: The Politics Thread 2021
For me the most worrying thing is there are still a not-insignificant number of Trump apologists out there, marinating in their social media ecosystem which is nothing more than a farcical echo-chamber of baseless propaganda.
They genuinely, wholeheartedly believe that they are the true patriots and custodians of the truth and those living in the real world are the traitors to democracy.
