Because Democracy.

Son, we live in a world that has forums, and those forums have to be guarded by Mods. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Nickman? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lucy, and you curse GE. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that GE’s moderation, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, keeps threads on track and under the appropriately sized, highlighted green headings.
You want moderation because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that forum -- you need me on that forum. We use words like "stay on topic," "use the appropriate forum," "please delete." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very moderation that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you get a green handle and edit a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think about moderation.

After selfies with Franklin Graham Morrison better not pretend he’s a friend of the LGBT community, be hard pressed to find a family who has done more harm to their cause over the last century.

There are still some people who aren't entitled to vote, though I doubt their uprising would be too successful:
The following Australians are not entitled to enrol and vote:
  • people who are incapable of understanding the nature and significance of enrolment and voting
  • prisoners serving a sentence of five years or longer
  • people who have been convicted of treason and not pardoned.

There appear to be quite a few people meeting that first criterion that still get to vote

Can’t see that happening, their current conference is blaming the whole child abuse thing on the “gay agenda”.

As for abortion to quote Pell himself

“Abortion is a worse moral scandal than priests sexually abusing young people”:

Found it funny this was done back in December, but Aus media couldn’t release the story.

Do the courts not know how the internet works?

Yeah suppression orders are a bit of a joke now days and I’m wondering if that could be part of the reason his second trial was abandoned since the public already knew he had been found guilty of the original abuse charges.

Just wish the religion thread was unlocked I’m in the mood for a good rant about the CC with Pell, their conference trying to pass the blame, the raping of nuns and yet another teacher of mine getting done for abusing children a few weeks ago.

It would indeed be interesting to see dubby picking them all out of the net

Be keen to see him explain again why religious organisations feel they somehow have the right to not allow two people to be married on the basis of moral superiority too

That thread was locked because the discussion went round in circles, with forum guidelines repeatedly broken... but there's no reason people can't discuss religion if they wish in this thread or a new thread on a specific topic on this board.

I had this chat with a work colleague today... feels like this could be a real line in the sand moment for australia to say enough is enough and remove the tax breaks for religious institutions.

Why the **** should the australian tax payers be shelling out for this kind of institution?

Andrew Bolt is doubling down in his support for Bolt..

He really is pandering to a super niche audience now.

Should have stuck to his Socialist, Lefty, Greeny, femdom, hippy bashing agenda.

At very least I hope this is the moment everyone stops giving a **** what the Catholic Church has to say about any issue.

I'd love to see one of the richest organisations in the world lose their handouts.

To be fair I don’t think Dubs is a particular fan of the Catholic Church either, from memory I think he once said he thought the reason I’m so against Christianity was because I went to a Catholic school (it’s not the reason).

I think Reason is the only party pushing for it, chance the Greens might get on board but doubt Labor has the balls to as Christian lobby groups still hold some sway, not a chance the LNP would ever consider it.

Pells team is pushing for home detention thankfully the presiding judge said only jail would be sufficient for his crimes.

I can see it happening till the appeal is heard but if it fails he better get locked up.

Edit: despite character references from the likes of John Howard Pell his bail has been revoked and will spend his first night behind bars.

The appeal will be purely on procedural issues, anyway.

Interesting to know that. Helps putting some context around those comments being inadmissible

But boy, what a statement. If I were a father to one of his victims, that sort of line would send me crazy
