To be fair, a vast majority of the criticism I've seen levelled at that video was directed at how lame it was, not the 'offensive' lyrics.Pigman wrote:God that fiasco has hit me right in a sore point
Why the **** does anyone give a ****... it was a lame attempt to be cool, that's all. But the way certain twitter users of a certain political persuasion (I.E you, you **** knuckle dragging CCCARNT) took to it was embarrassing
I **** guarantee you if that Spineless idiot Shorten used some song as a backdrop to some meaningless social media post, you'd be **** mum on it. It actually made me want to vote for ScoMo more.
Is there we're we are at? Worrying about the extended lyrics of a song pollies use for social media posts?
If so, shut down it all down, we dont need pollies to run the country because we've run out of real problems

Oh crap. I agree with pigman on this one.
Re: The Politics Thread 2018
Finally, Schifty called out for his reign of maoist terror on Twitter.
This is a lynch mob I can get behind.
This is a lynch mob I can get behind.
Son, we live in a world that has forums, and those forums have to be guarded by Mods. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Nickman? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lucy, and you curse GE. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that GE’s moderation, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, keeps threads on track and under the appropriately sized, highlighted green headings.
You want moderation because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that forum -- you need me on that forum. We use words like "stay on topic," "use the appropriate forum," "please delete." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very moderation that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you get a green handle and edit a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think about moderation.
Re: The Politics Thread 2018
I'm not offended by the lyrics
I just loved that the self proclaimed faux nationalistic pushing Christian conservative ended up with that backing track.. In fact I didn't see a single person on my twitter timeline that was offended by that. It just pairs perfectly with the whole "ScoMo" schtick.
BTW I haven't said much on Morrison I think he is even worse than Abbott , as at least to my knowledge Abbott never came out in favour of conversion therapy.
Also I don't blatantly support Shorten on everything, I've even called him a plank in the past which (I can only assumed an intoxicated) Albo then liked..

Damn it sucks when you stay at a $500 a night hotel and have to get an external massage service that then tries to rob you.
I think everyone should take this warning onboard.

Here's an interesting one - the ABC has a cynicism test:
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-09-20/i ... e/10281522
I probably expected to be on the more cynical side, what surprised me is how positive everybody else apparently is...

Well if you go my active posters on this site I like about 5 people here.
Re: The Politics Thread 2018
I ranked as pretty cynical. I think most people are good people, there are obvious exceptions. But our political system is broken, a relic of federation. In a world of social media and a 24 hour news cycle, it causes reactive parties and governments unable to see past the here and now to focus on the long term hard decisions that are ultimately in the best interests of this country.

Schifty, could you please let Mr.Urquhart know that, while I agree with the premise of his article, women making up 22 of 107 positions is being outnumbered almost 4:1 not 5:1?
This is obviously very important and I don’t twitter

So why are none of the major parties entertaining an interim shift to nuclear energy?
Lefties win because we stop burning **** and **** the atmosphere.
Right wingers win because no solar or lentil powered anything. And nuclear is TOUGH, STRONG and REAL.

Most likely you need to put them 30-50km outside of a major city... roughly where we put coal plants. I have no issue living near one.
QLD could use its recycled water systems to cool the ****.
As a country we have very minimal seismic activity. Don't build it next to the ocean and don't skimp on maintenance and they will be fine.

Re: The Politics Thread 2018
The religious privilege review has been leaked.
“Religious schools would be guaranteed the right to turn away gay students and teachers under changes to federal anti-discrimination laws recommended by the government’s long-awaited review into religious freedom.
However the report, which is still being debated by cabinet despite being handed to the Coalition four months ago, dismisses the notion religious freedom in Australia is in “imminent peril”, and warns against any radical push to let businesses refuse goods and services such as a wedding cake for a gay couple.“

I bow down to thee oh great Nickman, the wisest of the wise, your political adroitness is unsurpassed, your sagacity is unmatched, your wisdom shines through on this forum amongst us mere mortals as bright as your scalp under the light of a full moon, never shall I doubt your analytical prowess again. You are my hero, my lord, my savior, may you accept my offerings so you continue to bless us with your genius.
Re: The Politics Thread 2018
I read that article this morning.
So religious people/organisations can discriminate against LGBTI (not sure of acronym) but nobody is allowed to discriminate against religious people/organisations? Did I read it correctly?

Re: The Politics Thread 2018
Pretty much, after all that is what “religious freedom” always comes down to, the right to discriminate.
Schools shouldn’t be able to discriminate against teachers or students on any grounds but if they are to have that privilege they should lose their government funding.

Re: The Politics Thread 2018
It is legal to be gay, so why should the law permit anyone be allowed to discriminate against those people on the basis of their sexual preference? I can’t think of a single reason why religions should be permitted to do so under the law. Certainly there should be no extension of the ability of these institutions to discriminate.

Re: The Politics Thread 2018
religous schools turn away students already on the basis of anything already.
The problem isn't with changes to the legislation, there is and always will be a problem where there is to much cross over between the public and private sector.
If you are going to have private schools, they should be fully private and receive no public monies and do what they like and the abc / left / schifty can go jump in the river when trying to criticize them, but as it is whilst they have their head in the trough they are going to continue to be a problem.
