The Nanny State

Article speaks for itself.
FTR, I'm a clean skin but I think this is a bit ridiculous. I'm going to have a pretty big LOL if the tattooed community band together and ruin a pub or two with dropped revenues and patronage.

My wife has a tattoo of the word "eternity" Arthur Stace style..........I guess its a good thing she isn't going to a night club.
It seems a bit far fetched. I'd understand if they banned someone with bikie related tattoos or Nazi symbols written across their face.

The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

I have no issue with those with neck / face tattoos getting banned, but those that have one other where shouldn't be punished.
I've got a forearm tattoo and working on a sleeve, but it's just ridiculous how in this day and age bars are wanting no one with tats in.

Funny thing is , some cops have tattoos on their neck/arms. Are they banned from entering the nite clubs?

What if they had a really offensive tattoo on their face or body? Something racist or misogynistic for example?

This is actually quite common around the world. Apparently (please don't ask me to provide evidence) there are all sorts of studies showing a correlation between tattoos and violence at licensed premises.
I have absolutely no opinions on this subject. Just sharing.

Son, we live in a world that has forums, and those forums have to be guarded by Mods. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Nickman? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lucy, and you curse GE. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that GE’s moderation, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, keeps threads on track and under the appropriately sized, highlighted green headings.
You want moderation because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that forum -- you need me on that forum. We use words like "stay on topic," "use the appropriate forum," "please delete." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very moderation that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you get a green handle and edit a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think about moderation.

That's basically my take on it. Even in the extreme cases, if you want to look like a fool in public then go ahead IMO.The Nickman wrote:Nobody should be banned from anything because of tattoos.
The below link isn't specifically related to what you said but it lends argument to it, the last sentence especially. Re: The Nanny State
Exactly. This has nothing to do with the "war on bikies". Bars around the GC have been doing this for ages. If they feel that tatted up douchebags aren't the image they want for their establishment, then that is their right. Put a long sleeve shirt on. And if it's not possible to cover up your tattoo (face, neck etc) then you possibly should have put more thought into it before you got inked up.Manbush wrote:People aren't allowed into clubs for a variety of reasons, under dressed, over dressed, wrong designer labels etc this is just an extension of clubs choosing their clientele.

I've got both sleeves tattooed, and there's one club in Gold Coast and one in Brisbane I can't get into. The one in Gold Coast I went into with long sleeved shirt, and everytime I pulled up my sleeves inside the building, the bouncer ran over and told me to pull them down
In NZ they don't seem to care if you have tattoos, even at the Casino. When I went to South Africa I asked my mate if tattoos were gonna be a problem and he laughed for like 5mins.
