Luckily it’s back to 17 degrees and on its way to a glorious top of 22

Those few hours below 10 were harrowing stuff, absolutely no idea why people would want to live in that crap

Parents came up this weekend. Seized the moment to try doing ribs again.

2nd attempt was much better. I think I’m ready to level up and try something new

Son, we live in a world that has forums, and those forums have to be guarded by Mods. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Nickman? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lucy, and you curse GE. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that GE’s moderation, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, keeps threads on track and under the appropriately sized, highlighted green headings.
You want moderation because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that forum -- you need me on that forum. We use words like "stay on topic," "use the appropriate forum," "please delete." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very moderation that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you get a green handle and edit a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think about moderation.

MIL rang the gas place yesterday to let them know the new hose is too short.

Short story is..I'm taking the whole unit back today while they unscrew this hose and replace it with a longer one. I mentioned to the bloke on Friiday this hose looked short and was brushed...

Can't wait to see him this morning..

I've never seen a gas heater with an extension hose mate.

I would guess and have to say because of what travels through the hose(natural gas) it would be a safety concern. One solid, continuous hose would be safer...

But like I said, I've never seen a standard gas heater hooked up to connected hoses.

That’s like me, but replace the job application with “I still don’t know if I’m doing this right. Fancy giving us both a demo?”

Alright guys, workplace etiquette question. Just overheard the below conversation in our office lobby
Person A wrote:Oh Hi, it's really nice to meet you
Person B wrote:Yeah... we've met before... How are you?
This was met with a dose of awkward laughter after the fact, and a hurried walk to the lifts.

If you were person B, would you have called that out? I would have just let that one go through to the Keeper, because no good ever comes from this situation.
A. You create the above mentioned awkward situation where Person A doesn't remember you
B. You allow yourself to look like a creep for remembering a previous meeting that the other person didn't really seem to care about

I totally agree with you, unless they actually have met heaps of times, it’s an unnecessary power play on the part of person B.

I've been Person A in that conversation many, many times. As someone says "Oh, have you two met?", I'm saying "No" as the other person says "Yes."

It's really awkward. I'm one of those rare few who is not only bad with names, I'm also bad with faces.

I have a pretty decent memory, and can remember random 5 min catchups forever ago, so I’ve had moments to be Person B a few times. I had 1 moment where I’ve said “Yes” and they’ve said “No”. Turned out to be some random water cooler chat.

That was the last time I jumped in first. I tend to hold back and wait for them to make the first move now.

Speaking of power play, I had a meeting last week with a German company we’re looking to partner with. 10 mins to go in the meeting, and one of them goes “Hey, so we have 10 mins left. Let’s continue this conversation for 5 mins, then discuss next steps for 3 mins and conclude.”

I nearly wept from hearing that. I complain a lot about meetings running over time, or when you have back-to-backs. I’ve been waiting for my next meeting to throw that line out there. Talk about efficient.

Went to a funeral the other day, a bloke I used to play football with nearly fifty years ago. He was a real good bloke, very popular. Sad to see him go out after a lingering debilitation.
On the long return journey I was pondering life and death and how people are remembered. The recently deceased was hugely popular within the club we played for, he being there for about three years. He wasn't in the list of good players by any means, good average being his best description, but he was held in high regard as evidenced by his funeral which had many former players there. One other player there was much the opposite, an absolute gun player, big, strong, athletic, clever and arrogantly confident.Almost universally admired by clubmates for his abilities, I don't think he had a single real friend within the club. He didn't care then, but now it is obvious that he has big regrets about the way his life panned out. The mediocre lived a happy life, the absolutely gifted is living a vastly lesser life, and is finding it difficult to make amends.
Life can be strange.

Found out this morning that a workmate who started the same day as me committed suicide yesterday. He was just 26.

Spent the whole day trying to look for warning signs, and thinking maybe I could have done something. It was a tough day.
